I was reading over the weekend that the problem with the msd coils is that the factory settings for dwell time is too much. Think of dwell time not as discharge time, but rather charging time. If you charge them too long, they will burn out. Someone had actually contacted MSD and found out that the factory ls1 settings were charging the coil packs too long, which is what was causing them to crap out because you were overheating them by having too high of a dwell time.
I just switched over to the Yukon/Truck 6.0l coil packs and it helped to reduce some of the random misfires and throttle response is a little cleaner as well. Who knows if I gained any full throttle hp, but for better drivability, it was certainly worth the $130 I spent. |
