Default LS1 into 99 BMW Z3M Coupe

A good friend of mine has built this car for me..............He's done lots of LSx conversions on FD3 RX7's and a few BMW's:

1999 BMW Z3 M Coupe fitted with LS1 with 243 CNC heads, TR Cheatr cam, LS6 intake and bespoke headers / exhaust.

The rest of the car is sorted with brakes, suspension and chassis mods to handle the new power.

It's up and running and just needs fine tuning and suspension set up etc.

Bad *** car, I bet it scoots with all the power. Even with the s52 that car is pretty damn peppy!

NICE!

Are you planning to do an A/C? Also, can I trouble you for the p/n for upper rad hose you're using? You have one of my fav swaps. If I wasn't so fed up with California Smog issues i'd totally considering doing a swap like yours.

Yes I'll probably do A/C for the summer (8 months away here). The top hose was a bespoke one made to our spec by a local silicone hose company.

Handling is slightly better than OEM, due to suspension upgrades, but it's still to be treated with respect due to zero driver aids............only abs!

What about the rear end?.............Well I think it looks fine!

Nice work!

Take a look at our thread re: A/C lines. Very easy to make, not too expensive. All parts you need are at

I don't like the Z3M coupe's look, but I've read that they have amazing handling.
Car looks sweet with the LS1 and probably weighs less to boot.

Not been on the dyno yet but most of the motors that my mate has built to this spec are around 400 rwhp.

More mapping and road set up will be done once the winter is over and there's no salt on the roads!

now hells yeah thats a clean swap!
love the mounts and entire swap is really well done.
props to your friend, glad to see a pro job on such a nice car.
I would love to build an LS1 Mcoupe! always loved that bodystyle and think an LS1 w/ mods would only make it even more fun.

great pics, so cool to see a Euro car on here enjoying the LS1 fun!

any rolling pics or videos of it?
nice work and congrats, what a beauty!

Thanks for the compliments.......

The car has now been live mapped and will be on the dyno this weekend for fine tuning.

I've done a track day and about 2000 road miles so far since the build and it does make a great road car.......Just in the process of tracking down and curing those annoying after build squeaks and rattles!!!

what oil pan are you running? is it moded?
from the pics it looks like it has custom motor mounts that use the stock rubber mounts?

yeah man sounds like a lot of fun, glad you are enjoying it!

Oh yes I know how that goes, detective work to isolate and remove all squeaks and rattles, that took me about a year on my FC RX7.
