my thoughts on the STS....
a standard rear mount kit is a good place to start for future modifications or if you are looking for just alittle more punch over stock, but i have found in my short time of owning a rear-mount system is that most people don't like it because they bolted the kit up as advertised expecting monster horsepower numbers and track times then are sadly disappointed. i think the system works great but stock exhaust manifolds w/heat wrap, tuning tuning tuning, fuel system up-grade, turbo cam and a few other goodies such as some listed in the links below are needed to make a rear-mount work to it's full potential. lots of people complain about the air taking to long to get from the turbo to the motor, to me once the car is running the system is pressurized. the oil lines aren't for the faint of heart and is one of the few fears i have. changing spark plugs is hard enough as it is, with a rear-mount there is no extra stuff under the hood. it sounds awesome, sts has it's own list of pros and cons listed on their website. i'm running a custom intercooled t67 with a built 385cu.in. LT1 on 91oct. stock intake manifold pushing just over 500/570 rear-wheel on a one time mail order tune ( dyno tuning coming soon and more power) with no noticeable lag and capable of over 650rearwheel . mine hangs low, but the pipping of the new kits tuck the turbo up and away from the ground much more.. a buddy of mine ran the same T67 intercooled LEP/sts kit on his stock 2002 SS and made over 530rear wheel in vegas and now with a forged motor is pushing over 630 to the wheels. i think rear-mounts are more for daily drivers, emissions friendly and weekend worriers, front mounts more for weekend worriers and racers. to each is their own. all depends on what your over all goals are and how much you want to spend.
