Default 2009 bmw m3 vs 2010 ss camaro?

How do you think they would stack up in the 1/4 mile? Very curious to hear opinions

No contest, SS all the way. The V8 in the BMW has low torque compared to the LS3. Both cars weight about the same, and come equiped with nearly the same size wheel and tires package. The only difference is the BMW will have launch mode. I have always liked the sound of my inline 6 but the new V8 sounds awesome, it just lacks the torque, but it spins up nicely.

Try again. At 445lbs its 55lbs heavier than an LS1, and don't forget physically bigger.

Kinda a weird comparison. The M3 is tuned for handling and balance overall, not straight line dragging and has less tq than the SS will have. SS will take it with equal drivers I think.

I think that the M3 may come out on top in that race, 1/4 times on the M3 vary from 12.5 up to 12.9, from what i can find about the SS is that it runs 13.3 with automatic and 13.4 with 6 speed.

M3. http://www.oncars.com/news-blogs/sto...-3-Performance

As said before, Apples and Oranges. Anyway, For the extra $23,000 grand the Bimmer cost you could have a 10 second Camaro, with enough light weight components and suspension parts to road course better than the M3.

think of it this way... the m3 is a smaller and lighter car compared to the camaro... so it may be a bit quicker but i think after the camaro gets out into the customers hands they will end up being about even. I also think the camaro will hold its own in the handling dept with some suspension mods.

but with the low torque the m3 wont be as fun, will probably be a more peaky powerband and it wont be able to put down an easy 450+horsepower to the rear wheels with a mild heads cam setup . m3's tiny v8 is all but maxed from the factory.

All that matters is the cts-v kicks the snot out of both m3 and m5, and that their real competitor.

The camaros have been delivered to customers for a total of ONE week. So how does everyone "KNOW" what it runs already?

What he said. There is nothing left to do to the M3, it is already geared very aggressively, and there is basically nothing reasonable left to do to the motor. Who the hell wants a 4.0L v8 anyway? That is pathetic. And it gets 14/20 mpg!!

There was a post a while back, I forget who did the review, i think it was edmunds. But they reported it did the 1/4 mile in around 13, 13.1 and that was out on a normal road not a prepped track. That's where most people are stating the time from.

What M3 are you buying for $53-57K? Not a new one, try in the mid $60K region.

Thank you, I stand corrected. I guess my equivalant Camaro won't just break into the 10s, it will be running bottom 10s

You can actually regear the E92 M3's... but they have a dismal amount of torque (under 300rwtq).

Hell an LS3 at idle probably puts down more torque...

I'll say they are a wash on times, give or take a 1/4 second.

Nobody buys M3s for drag racing and that is not their appeal.

They are really nice cars and I would take a m3 over a 2010 camaro anyday. Already have my drag car.

true they are a nice car and not for drag racing solely but why does it include a "launch" control? its obviously intended for sport style driving which includes drag racing. so that be the case id take 2 camaros for that price or the cts-v which is cheaper faster and imo better styled and also the fastest sedan around the nurburgring. And forget about which would be easier to make faster...

i just couldnt stand the idea of owning a bmw... too many snobs who own them for the image.
