Default My GTO gets paid off in '11: should I buy a C7, my Mom's '07 Z06, or a '12 Z28?

From http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29766

Quote:
Scott, Cheryl, John, Al, design guy?(forget his name?) and John Cox
These are the people you should thank for bringing the Camaro back to life!
They were in Carlisle PA showing off the Camaro (which was easy to do)
They answered all questions from the crowd....which brings me to the Z28.

I don't want this thread to be a boring talk again and again about the Z28 speculation.
There is no doubt that there will be a Z28
It will have the Z28 hood (like bumblebee 2)
It will have a different grill which will include the chevy bowtie somewhere (top executive decision making here)
It will probably have a different rear spoiler
It will have Z28 emblems and/or graphics
It will have a high output engine LS ? something (as long as it meets government standards for fuel economy)

They want you to enjoy the NEW Camaro, the way it is offered now, for the next couple years
Then, the convertible will be out in the spring of 2011
Then, the Z28 will probably come out a year later
Let's assume that the new Corvette C7 is the concept in the Transformers sequel; that the new Camaro Z28 comes out as a 2012 model; that I survive this economy and get to pay off my brand-new bought 2006 GTO in 2011; and that my Mother finishes her 60-month lease on her Atomic Orange '07 Z06, what should I do? Buy a brand-new C7, buy my Mom's slightly-used Z06, buy the new Camaro Z28, or remain car payment free and do nothing? Thanks in advance for the opinion.

I dont really want to read all of that, but you need to weigh what you really want?

Pure speed?
looks?
Prestige?

To me, its a no brainer, the Z06 in every way would be my choice! they're so damn much fun to drive...

Honestly, I think you should come back in 2011 and ask this question. Thats not for 2 years, and a lot can happen in 2 years

After driving your mom's Z06 and hearing that the LS7 will be out of production. I say the Z but the c7 will prob be out. Either way you will have 3 perfect cars.

If the C7 will be that concept Sting Ray from the movie, then I think it's a no-brainer that I should buy the C6 Z06. That concept Sting Ray looked garbage. I would take the Z28 over that.

Be smart. Pay off all your debt first then shop around for a C6Z.

Pay off the car, then dump all that extra money into your house payment. If you're wasting money on rent then get a house and pay that off. Keep your car until it is no longer reliable and it would be less hassle and not much more cost in upkeep than a falling apart car. The GTO has a proven drivetrain and is fairly reliable and shouldn't lose value as bad as a lot of other cars since it was limited to 3 year production. I don't like the current mindset that a lot of people share. Everyone is so used to having house payment and car payments and think having credit is a good thing. Go debt free, own your life and everything in it.

Once the GTO is paid off in 2011, I could quickly save up a downpayment for mortgage on a cheap condo so that I can generate monthly rental income that would exceed the monthly mortgage payments. My Mom's lease on the Z06 ends in 2013 and will have a residual value of $28,000. I can easily finance that with my 9-5 professional job and offset the monthly car payments with the monthly net profit from the rental income. As for an actual place of residence, I can live with my Mom for the rest of my life being single and paying gas and electric bills that total $400 while helping to maintain her house. Being single will be my key to easy living.

No doubt about it. It's one of the smartest and most respectable things that anybody can do.

I am in the same type of dilemma between saving for a house or getting a new camaro. Im 24 and still living at home. Just recently finished school and have a good job as a radiologic technologist. I have been saving my money and have about 5k saved so far in the past few months.

If I was a few years younger I would get the car...but I want to move out by the time im 26. I feel like a free loader and it is looked down on by some females when you have to take them back to your parents house...lol.

It sucks bad but I know in the future I will be better off saving for a nice house.

But damn it is going to be hard to resist next summer when I got plenty of money in the bank and can easily afford a new camaro...I hope I can resist.
