This is something I've thought of time to time. I've always been really curious about it, but never had the time or money to undertake this project.

Props to you, for doing something really different.

that's what i'm wondering. i'm guessing you found a deal on the 6.5. i wouldn't imagine you'd find a cheap duramax laying around. awsome swap though! great job.

Wow this is really impressive. We need some engine shots of that, and vids for sure!

EDIT: Just saw the vids, and the engine in the vids. Pretty impressive man, you going to strap that on the dyno soon? or have you already?

Thats freakin' crazy! We know it has torque, but is it fast?

I bet you get strange looks with that sound coming from a Camaro.

Because that is an opinion. And in the car owner's opinion (or any other owner for that mater), if he likes the LS1 front-end better, he has the choice of changing it.

Thank everybody for your comments. The build was very extensive and tedious. Your comments remind me it was so worth it.

have you ever seen a Duramax on an engine stand? It is massive, lol. No way it would fit in an F-body with its 4 valve monster cylinder heads and deep skirt block. You would need a 6 inch cowl hood and whole new K-member and basically remove the strut towers. The 6.5L holds it own and new parts are coming out for it everyday. It has also suited our great U.S. Military quite well in the HMMMV for over 20 years.
A man named Bill Heath somehow pulled over 450hp outta the 6.5L very recently.

Correct.

agreed. someone suggested since I "lost" the hood (don't ask) that the LS1 conversion could be done for cheap. I have owned a 96 Z and a 99 Z, both black with t-tops. The LS1 is great, but the LT1 front has my vote.

There was a guy at Super Chevy at Maple Grove Raceway last year with a 6.5 diesel in a 3rd gen. But his was sitting on a custom frame with 33 in tires

Wow; very impressive.

And no reason to change the front end (somebody said "now work on the appearance" huh?)....LT1's look just as good or even better than LS1's; be it Camaro or Trans Am.

Maybe its just me, but I'd have to disagree. The LT1 Firebirds and Trans Ams are HIDEOUS. The Trans Am isn't as bad, but its still pretty damn bad. LT1 Camaros don't look bad, but not as good a LS1, in my opinion. Besides, the LS1 has WAY more potential for appearance mods.

Honestly, I love the LT1 birds. They looked so clean and elegant, very sleek. The ls1 birds are just a bit too bulgy and flashy for me, kinda like a Russian Olympic female wrestler. Yeah its a lady, but kinda off.

But then again lt1 camaros looked like they have sunken emo headlights lol.
Call it what you will, but I love em all.
