I can see blowers being helpful at a stop, but they would seem rather useless at high speeds, unless they were some kickass fans.
What do you mean by 1 top of the line and 1 mid level mod?
Well it is possible to rig motors based on your speed. (On while stopped, off while moving)

I meant an expensive priced intake modification and a middle of the line priced mod.

Well since you've got a V6, you're a bit limited in what is available to you.
Get some type of CAI with a cone filter, and possibly remove the access panels below the car to let fresh air in.
That's pretty much it for intake. Unless you de-screened the MAF. yup.

Yeah, I know it's a V6, but it is my daily driver so I do appreciate the gas mileage.

I've found in the past that spray paint designed for engines holds up very well to heat (naturally). When I do this mod, I will sand the honeycomb screen with about 200 grit sand paper, which should give the paint a rough surface to bite.

I will probably use a dremel to cut the opening (being sure to tape off). I will use a cutting wheel to cut through the honeycomb mesh, then a file to smooth the edges.

Not sure on the type of adhesive...possibly a 2 part clear epoxy.

I'll probably do it this winter when it goes into storage. Don't feel like screwing it up since this car is my DD in the spring/summer, haha.

my car was my daily man and it could be done in a weekend hell if you were persistant you could get it knocked out in a day. i can get the pair off my car possibly and sell if you want!??!?!?!? they are white and and i never laid bondo over them to make them smooth or anything so they are a lil rough around the edges but the holes are already cut out so you could either work on those and swap them or just install mine so you get the effect so you can do yours. just some advice but if you have any questions i did a write up in here or you could pm me and ill hook you up

If I had a 93-97 I'd do this, but I've got a 98.

Always did make me wonder why the heck they weren't real vents. Seemed kind of dumb.

I did mine in a few hours. With a rasp. Touched them up the next day. This is actually easier and cheaper than a TB bypass.

When I did mine way back when, I did notice a underhood temp drop. Also, an even bigger drop with the cowl hood... alot actually

true, I wonder what kind of pressure builds under the hood at high speeds. I imagine it could handle 140 but I would be afraid of the hood popping off around 160. has anyone that has done this gone that fast since the mod? I wouldn't want to be the first to find out its bad ju ju..
x2 on the honey comb, I actually thought about doing something like this years ago when I first got the z.. but wasn't crazy about it being open to the elements and thought it would be cooler to use the vents for purging nitrous.....when I eventually get some

I did mine last year, but insted of cutting the entire section out I cut everything but the areas where the fake plastic vents snapped-in. I drilled holes the same size as the fake dimples in the plastic vent cover(hardest part). Sanded, painted, cleared and popped them back in.
