I think you missed the point. It's not the hardness of the bondo in dried state, it's what happens once it heats & cools. Totally different reactions occur during heat expansion compared to smackin it on the wall.

Granted when wrapped in CF with plenty of resin it shouldn't be a issue, but for those looking to just paint it smooththey need to be informed that it will crack eventually due to the expansion properties.

Update: don't think I forgot about this... the person I was relying on to supply me w/ the carbon fiber dicked me over. I just came to the realization today... so I ordered the stuff myself:

- Epoxy resin 1 quart w/ slow hardener
- 3K 2x2 Carbon Fiber Twill 50"Wx12"L
- carbon fiber friendly degreaser
- home depot mixing sticks (free)
- polishing compound
- UPOL UV Resistant High Gloss Clear Coat (amazing stuff)
- 3 White Bristle Laminating Brushes
- and a couple of different wet/dry grits

to be continued...

sorry for the delay. I just carbon fibered the center console. ended up doing an ashtray delete as well as a cig lighter and cup holder delete. tomorrow, when the epoxy hardens up i'll trim off the excess threads in the back and some sloppy curves and possibly lay down another layer of carbon fiber over the ashtray delete because it curved in a little . I must say though the proper way to do it would have been vacuum bagging it. doing it by hand like this got extremely sloppy and frustrating. hopefully it'lll turn out looking decent... i'll be sure to post pics tomorrow of the process. I'm also building a rear seat delete on my spare time so that explains for the delay .

yah hopefully it'll come out looking good. probably gonna have to go over some spots w/ another layer of CF. it's definitely a very complex piece for an amateur. my god!! soo many curves.

Edit : I decided i'm not gonna CF the entire interior, I'm just doing the center console and the radio bezel. much cleaner.

well I'm still waiting for the epoxy to cure completely before putting one more layer of CF over it. but heres some pics.

The rear seat delete is coming out nice too. It took forever to get all the measurements around the door panel. so this week I will be finishign that up and eventually wrapping it in black suede.

+1 Yea.. do yourself a favor and wrap the whole thing again with one piece. I can understand you wanting to do some reinforcement in some areas, but the final layer needs to have a continuous weave pattern.

He said he is waiting for the epoxy to dry before adding another layer.... I would assume he plans to lay a layer over all of that. What id like to know if this is the plan is why more than 1 single layer? Its not like you have to re-enforce it or anything because its just a finish.

He smoothed over the cupholder.

But he still shouldve been able to use one big single layer

if you put a single layer over that, it will be wavy as hell.
