You're definitely going to want to use Alcantara instead of regular suede. That's what Lamborghini uses on their Gallardo Superleggera and their race cars, so it definitely stands up to the abuse.
hehe the abuse of what? 500 miles a year?

I HATE when it is humid out and my wheel is coming apart in my hands. I have that POS leather all over the place and I have to wash my hands after. Now after that happening like 3 times my wheel looks like complete shit. What kind of price range are we looking at?
I'm about to start placing some material orders... Most of the wheels are black leather, so I'm stocking up on that... and I'm requesting some samples of dark grey for some of the other guys...
Who would be interested in suede? I can order some suede if some people are interested in doing that?
Once I recieve the wheel, usually can have it done within a day unless something unexpected comes up involving supply... So assuming I have it in my possession on a Monday, you should have it back by that Friday.
The wheel that I recieve needs to have the original cover intact. I use the original for patterns to insure the new cover fits exactly the same.
The padding starts at 1/4" padding, but once compressed by the leather it's only a fraction of that. Besides, anything to dramatic looks really odd compared the rest of the wheel at the joints.
As far as the red stitching, I'll have to see what I can get. I like to use a beezwax coated nylon cording for these, it holds up really well and resists fraying and discoloring as well as not holding odor. Usually the color options are fairly limited, ex, black, brown, tan, etc... I'll have to see if I can locate some more exotic colors...
I'll probably be using deer skin for the hide choice, it tends to be super supple, feels awesome. Unless someone wants exotic, such as croc or reptile...
I agree, the stock wheel is too skinny. If I could get a remake I'd like slightly smaller diameter, removal of the handgrips (no idea, what they are called, but the thicker areas above the side spokes) and then more padding and wrapped in black leather.
Are you removing the old leather and redoing it entirely or are you just putting a cover on?
When I say extra padding, I'm talking about making the diamter of the wheel thicker. The trans am wheels are just too skinny.
...kinda moot point if your having your TA wheel recovered , but the 00-02 Ebony Camaro steering wheel rims are thicker and the pontiac airbag and radio controls drop right in . I have no clue why pontiac didnt use this wheel all along .

Really, I gotta check on that and see if that's the case.
I completely remove the old leather, and take it down to the cast. I can remove the thumb grips, I don't really see why you would want to though.... I placed my order last night for my materials, I ordered black leather, and black suede. I'm going to redo mine in partial or all suede as well as make it thicker so we'll have some pics...
My wheel is still perfect but I would like to have it thicker. Let me know if you get some dark grey in. Also white stiching would be tits.
