I have relatively bright headlights also although they are nothing compared to 71-Camaro-98's beams of daylight and I still don't really understand. I guess I would rather have my car be simple and understated.
In regards to the second part I've done quite a few things that wouldn't exactly be defined as legal. I will not get too far into it, but the harder it is for anyone that is going to attempt to pull me over to see my tag the better.
Bright has nothing to do with it - it is purely the color output of the light. There are those of us that think halogen/incandescent color output (very yellow) looks like shit. White LEDs put out a blue-ish white light that some of us prefer.
There's a difference between simple and understated and driving around in something that looks like an outdated pile of shit.

I am going to take that as a compliment Beaflag... Whether you meant it that way or not

Maybe I misunderstood an earlier post, but did u use 1 or 2 led strips? wouldnt 1 strip be good enough to light up the plate or is there not enough output from that strip?

1 strip...it's about 8 inches long with 24 LEDs.
YellowTA1...I'll go take a pic of the underneath and upload it. I'll caution you though, it's a rag tag job but you'll never see it.
I went a different route than W8S SS did; I went with 1 LED strip on either side, evenly spaced. And yes, I prefer the bright white/blueish light it puts out, rather than the yellow crappy light of the stock bulb. And having been pulled over by some cops (with nothing better to do) telling me that my plate light was too dim, I thought this would fix that problem permanently. And so far, it has. The LED strip I used already has 3M HB (high bond) on the back. It's a little cleaner look; not dissing you W8S SS. All you see are the LED strips.
Damn I did a custom one 4-5 years ago and it's amazing how cheap stuff has become!! Bright as hell too!!! Congrats and looks awesome, can't be LED pure white light on your plate... Just makes it stand out without looking like too much.

It's all good! For $3 and about 10 minutes of labor I'll take what I got lol! I might take the tape off and cut it to fit the strip only so you don't see any white tape. I was going to lay the strip on the side but the LED's faced towards the rear and hardly lit up the plate.
my license plate light doesnt work @ all ive changed the fuse and bulb still no bueno im going to get a strip and hook it up to a toggle switch or my head light switch i hate being pulled over something so little as a license plate light good job guys looks good

I guess 99.9% of the Fbody population looks like outdated pieces of shit because they have yellow tag lights. I guess I'll add people that don't match their headlight color to their tail light color in that group too.

I think your lights are awesome. I wish there was more options for 93-97 Camaros. I am just modding Sylvania 9005 4100K bulbs to fit in my factory reflector housings. The only advantage is that it's cost me around $40 total to do all four of the highs and lows. They still aren't nearly as bright as yours though, but it is a huge advantage over the stock lighting.
