I sure wish I seen this post earlier. Oh well, my lights are done.
This is deffenetly possible to do, but not too easily.
If you take your time on all the steps it will come out damn near perfect.
I cheaped mine a bit. Used 220 sandpaper wet(I know), then 1000, then 2000. After that hit it with some ultra light rubing compound. The lights look damn near new. No more yellow crap, but there are a few scratches(maybe from the 220).
Man my lights were in pretty bad shape so i decided to take them off and try to clean them up with some Meguirs headlight cleaner and that didnt turn out that good. So i went with you alls advice and ordered the Novus Cleaner it worked like a dream very inexpensive at the same time , thanks. I'll try to post some pics up .
Much appreciation for this article... I have a small video that shows just how awesome the Novus stuff really is for the non believers... I was a believer that something off the shelf would be just as good... WRONG... not until I found a small plastics shop 30 miles from here that actually had some Novus did I believe that Novus was the shit!! If anybody wants to see my little video, let me know and I'll post it up. Anyways... great write-up. Saved me big bucks.
I cleaned and polished my headlights over the weekend using the 3M Headlight restoration kit and the Novus Polishing kit. Here is a before and after photo. I used a mini air buffer/polisher. It took me about 1.5 Hrs to do both headlights. Can wait to see the difference when I get the car out of storage.
