Default Appearance update! new headlights-calipers painted!

The headlights are hella 90mm projectors. I got them to turn on yesterday but I had some wiring problems and have to cut and re-solder some stuff. Using Philips Gen III ballasts with Philips 4300k bulbs. This was much easier than trying to retrofit the bmw projectors I had as sealing them was an issue.
THe brakes are painted a lambo purple. My fuel rail covers will be painted the same way and I may do something with the clear lid and a big bird on it and the rest being this color.

Looks good.

From your HIDPlanet thread...
Those are the H7 version with D2S bulbs mounted in them using an adapter ring, right? Can you post some beam-pattern/output pics? Is it the DOT or ECE beam pattern?

Why did you choose the H7 version over the H9 version? The H7 version is more expensive. Did you do it because you can fit a D2S in there using a ready-made adapter ring? (Instead of the more difficult modification required to fit a D2S in the H9 or using rebased-capsules like I did which is the easiest.)

Neat but why purple if you going Grigio Telesto?

I like the calipers, I thought it was going to be a brighter purple, definitely different. Only thing I suggest is some Trans Am caliper decals. I've had two sets of the ones from afterthoughts (changed the color of mine once), and they're top quality.

Purple is badass in the right hue. Good work on the projectors too. One of those mods I really want to do, but Id screw it up...lol

I went with the h7 because of the adapter ring you can use for d2s bulbs. I took apart the projector and made some modifications so the d2s bulb would fit in there right and wouldn't break the return wire and ceramic.

I chose purple because gray calipers are boring; red, black, and gold everyone has done. Purple because it's pimp and i doubt a lot of people have done that.

Cost for projectors- (most of you will laugh or choke but I like to do things right and use quality shit).
-Hella 90mm H7 ECE code projectors: $250 after shipping
-Philips Gen III ballasts and bulbs $280
-Hella mounting brackets $22
-Hella Rubber Boots $12
-Custom made beefed up wiring harness for HIDs $40
About a day or two worth of labor also. With these it was a lot easier than I could have ever imagined.

So quick question with the 90mm projectors. Are those the halogen 90mm projectors that use an H9 bulb or the ones meant for HID that use the D2S?

Neither. They are the Halogen 90mm H7.

Hella makes the same projector housing in several versions.
* 90mm H9 DOT headlight
* 90mm H9 ECE headlight
* 90mm H9 Fog Light
* 90mm H7 DOT headlight
* 90mm H7 ECE headlight
* 90mm H7 Fog Light
The also make matching H9 & H7 high beam free-form reflector housings.

Low beam projector on the left.
High beam free-form relfector on the right.

DirtyBird222 used the H7 headlight version and modified them to fit D2S HID capsules.
(DOT or ECE? I don't know)

I used the DOT H9 headlight version and a H9 HID kit, but I modified the cut-off.

The H7 version costs about double the price of the H9 version, but it is easier to modify to fit a D2S capsule.

If you want to stay with Halogen, the H9 bulb is much brighter than the H7 bulb (2000 lumen vs 1350 lumen -- numbers from Sylvania's website). You can get a high output H7 bulb though with the same output as a H9 bulb (it is basically a H9 bulb on a H7 base).

DirtyBird222,
Do you have any pics of how the D2S capsule is mounted? From your HIDPlanet thread, I know you are using an adapter ring and had some trouble with the mounting clip. For the return wire, did you just groove the housing or was more modification needed (the H9 housing is already grooved). If you put more detail and pics, I'll add this to the Lighting FAQ. (If you don't mind that is.)

Ah thanks a bunch. Curious how did the H9 setup turn out?
