This was my weekend project for this week. I basically followed this write up using the same FX35 projectors: Trans Am/Firebird Lexan Projector adapters..No 56K Lots of cutting was involved on the projectors and it took a while for me to get the first one done. The second one was a lot faster after I knew what I was doing. A sawzall comes in real handy for the projector as well as the headlight housing bucket. The lexan came from Home Depot and cost less than 4 bucks for a 8x12 sheet, which is enough for both lights. I bought an extra in case I screwed up (which I did).
So after a day's work, I finally finished and had the projectors installed. Unfortunately, the bulbs I have aren't D2S (I'm not sure what they are) so they don't fit in the projectors very well, which makes the beam pattern really whacky right now. I have proper bulbs on their way. When they get here, I can take better pictures.
thats cool and good work, although how are they going to hold up in bad weather? I had a set of Bosch E46 projectors that I was going to use but sealing them up was an issue, this is why I went with the Hella 90mm setup because they are awesome when it comes to the elements.
Oh yea, you should only be using D2S bulb. That's the only thing meant to go into those projectors. You can buy a cheapy set off ebay or find yourself a Hella or Philps Bulb/Ballast set.
I did some MacGyvering and got the bulbs to fit properly. Here are some of the pics of the cutoff (although only about 10 ft from the garage) and down a parking lot.
Great work. you have chosen the perfect projector for retroing F-body.
Just my 2 cents:
from the cutoff looks like the left bulb is not sitting tight in the housing. looks like its been turned few degrees clockwise (looking from driver seat). On D2S bulbs you have this tab which locks the bulb in right orientation..
on my car I had the same problem, it was because the ignitor was touching the headlight cover in the back and was tilted, which caused the bulb to not sit flush.
for the cutoff, if you want more color (more blue on the line) you can play with the shield. on FX projectors the shield is actually made of 2 pieces. you can bend the front one bit towards lens to get more color. its kinda tricky, and need lot of trial error..
I like the FX projector and I prefer its output over the Hella projectors that I have, but the FX projectors aren't sealed. They are meant to be inside a housing. I worry about water and dirt getting in them and a rock flying up and damaging the lens.

I'm going to try retrofitting E46 projectors in my Crown Victoria next weekend. While I'm at it, I'll get some sheet metal to seal up the FX projectors. Luckily it's summer and we don't get any monsoon rains here. I should be getting the proper D2S bulbs this week so hopefully that'll correct the alignment issue.
Agreed. Good installation, great projector, I just worry about projectors that aren't sealed. That's the only reason I did Hella 90mm's over TSX, LX450, E46, etc. projectors.
