Back when I was running a Production class in WERA, I replaced most of the non-critical bolts with aluminium. I never did it because because of cost, but you could also replace alot critical bolts with titanium. Back when I was racing it cost alot but I think the price has come down, not to Ace Hardware levels but maybe feasable. BTW, I lost about 5 lbs or so just replaceing the misc. bolts with aluminium, this was on a 400 lb. FZR 400.

BIGBOS, my car weighs about 3045 with me in it. I weigh 175 in race form. As I said, I've not done anywhere near all of these things to my car.

Lighweight bolts and washers, I'll add that to the list. Where do you get these titanium and aluminum pieces and about what do they cost?

Better not put those aluminum bolts on a steel surface. The metal will corrode. Unless you have some crazy anti-faying plating job on there.

Ever heard of anti-sieze, if I'm not mistaken we already got a bunch of steel bolts going into aluminium parts. Forgot where I got them. If you pick up American Roadracer, the place was in the back with all the ads. This was about 10 years ago but I read through one a while back and seem to remember seeing the ad.

Hey guys, I did the rear bumper in my 93 Z28 and it came in right around 13#s. I looked at the rear bumper of my 2001, and it looks exactly the same. Are you _sure_ the rear bumper is 31#s?

I didn't actually weigh it so I just went off what I'd been told (the front I actually did weigh.) I still have it so I'll weigh it and get us a REAL number.

Thanks for the good question.

20..Dry cell battery in right rear

As long as we're fixing this, no way. The dynabatt is about 18# lighter than stock. If you mount that battery in the front of the car you'll use up another 1-2# making a hold down, for a savings of 16-17#.

If you also have to add 8' of thick wire to get that battery in the trunk, figure another 4-5# for the wire, and I doubt the dynabatt would even start a car from the trunk. Maybe change this to dynabatt in stock location with custom hold down : 17#.

The rear spring isolators are about 3# for both.

While we're on the subject, I had my water pump apart (I'm putting together the Burger Electric Water Pump) and threw it on the scale, it came in right around 14#s with pulley/thermo. I don't see how replacing it with anything can save 18#. I think that item should be removed until you can verify it, I suspect JPR EWP will save 3-4#s over stock.

Also I think the carpet/insulation comes in closer to 30# than 40#, can anyone verify?

Also how about adding skinnies to the list?

My front bumper came in at 18#s with bolts; fog lights another 2#s.

I noticed there is a lot of extra water in the cooling system, maybe it wouldn't be so bad to drain the coolant reservoir a bit.

I also put some skinnies on, which saved about 20# each.

Now if I could just get over this strep throat so I could get to the track. =/ Maybe wed.

Skinny's are already on the list under wallet mods.

I agree about the carpet. Mine only weighted 34 lbs.

You have the same idea about the battery thing that I had. But, in my case I was having electrical problems with the small battery (it was an Odysey not a Dyna-batt) so I decided that I could use the extra weight of a full weight battery in the rear (traction problems!.)

I'll change it to just say "dry cell battery" since moving it to the rear actually adds weight.

Does getting rid of the stock exhaust manifolds and replacing with headers add or reduce weight?

Headers are lighter than manifolds...especially the later model cast iron manifolds.

the A/C stuff on our cars bolts on (or off as the case may be ). If you look under the car you can see the compressor, it runs on a speparate belt from the rest of the accessories. if you look at the rest of the pieces you can pretty much see where it all bolts together/onto the car.

hope that helps.
