Default Auto Darkening Welding Helmet Recommendations

I have been using a Jackson products shade 10 auto darkening welding helmet for the past 3 years or so. Lately it has been screwing up and not automatically darkening. Pretty annoying when you are learning to TIG weld.

For all the welders out there: What kind of auto darkening helmet would you recommend? I would prefer one that has a large viewing screen.

I like the miller helmets alot, I currently have on of last years auto-dark helmet, I am thinking of getting one of the new miller elite helmets they are alot more sensitive (for tig welding) and have a bigger welding area.
Check out this place they have good prices

Here's the one I have ...

http://store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/we...ml?id=IDbZvCGj

It has the largest view area I could find. Most I tried had such a narrow view angle, it made it difficult for me and my degraded eyesight.

This Helmet is the shiznit ... it has 3 predetermined settings that can be selected very quickly. I use 11 for MIG/ARC welding, 5 for plasma cutting and 1 for grinding.

The hat is light weight ... lighter than a Hobart with a smaller view area. If you could just try one, you would throw racks at everything else.

No suggestion about a helmet but have you installed new batteries to see if that was the problem?

I installed brand new batteries and the problem happened again. The helmet acts weird sometomes, but works flawlessly most of the time. Maybe it is just getting to the end of it's useful life. I do remember that it was one of the first auto darkening helmets.

I had retnal steroid surgery due to a faulty speedglass auto darkening helmet, so just be careful. I use a Jackson #12 lense standard helmet.

I bought a cheapo one from Harbor Freight for $60 on sale. Gets the job done. I don't do it for a living or anything. If I did I would buy something better. It pulls my hair when i tighten it and i can't just flip my head to make it go down but the price was right.

I had a $39 western safety from harbor freight as my first lid... Then I used a Optrel at a welding equipent shop and fell in love... You have full control of everything and even have a shade setting low enough for grinding... About $270 or so however..

I'm looking into just getting the best large screen auto-darkening panel and fitting it into one of the 12 or so standars helmets we have around here. Thanks for the help.
