A Formula is a Firebird with the V8 and options. The difference there is that all "Firebirds" are V6's. A Trans Am has a different front and rear fascia, side skirts, tall spoiler, and comes standard with leather, t-tops, V8, etc.
The differences between a Formula and a Trans Am really aren't enough to say which one is faster. Many would argue I'm sure that a WS6 TA is faster than a Formula though. Another difference is the production numbers. Formulas were always produced in much smaller numbers than either Firebirds or Trans Am's.

2000 was the last year of the WS6 Formula Firebird, and not all Firebirds come with the V6 but as far as who's the fastest, you will get conflicting stories between everybody on who's car is faster. Good Luck in Kuwait Thunder 175

The Firebird was your base model car. Most of the options were available for them but they didn't get a V-8. A Formula Firebird has the V-8 and most of the Trans-AM options were available for the car but not standard.
The Trans-AM has pretty much every option standard. The only optional items were 12 Disc CD-changer, manual transmission, and traction control.
If a WS6 car was purchased that added the Ram Air Hood, larger front and rear sway bars, 245/40/ZR17 tires and wheels to accomodate them. WS6 cars still had TCS, 12 disc changer and manual transmission as optional.
I'm not going to get into the Firehawk's and Blackbirds.
