It was a big decision for me as well between Performabuilt and FLT, I ended up going with an FLT level 4, just waiting for it now. Both seem top notch though.

Car, i would go with RPMs Level VI, to be safe, but truck, haulling around that much weight, i would look at their 4L80E. I guess i am kind of biased though, since i have their Stage V T56 in our 00 WS.6, and its been great!

I beg to differ with you all. We have 4l85e running in 1000 hp plus applications with a T-Brake. Just a newbie to this forum but I guarantee we have one of the best around.

We have built some units for some pretty nasty GTO's. I do not have the exact details on them so to say over 800hp I could not confirm this. However we do have a two vets that I know for fact made over 800rwhp with a level 5 unit. These units do come in once a year to be freshened up. The one I just got done doing had over 100 1/4 mile passes on it and over 2000 street miles. The customer claimed it was still working fine. We did find an issue with the low roller race because of some wheel hop issues he was having. Other than that the unit looked pretty well for having over a 100 mid to low 9 second passes on it. Best pass of the year was a 9.25 IIRC. We did go through the unit and change out the 3-4 clutch along with a couple new updates we are doing! I hope to see this car hit the 8's with one of our units. Keep in mind this unit has billet input and output shafts in it along with some other prototype parts we have been testing for a few seasons. The results have been very good as far as I'm concerned. We will be releasing a new unit on our web page that will be called a "Maximum Performance Unit" very soon. Vince

Thank you and I hope to prove that we are just as capable as the rest. I also read Frank's post as well and he is a very knowledgeable man and has great PR skills. I think I can speak for Frank by saying that we are all here to sell our products that is how we make a living and can continue to subscribe as sponsors on this site. But we also do not want to see these " backyard mechanics sell you something you do not need or give you an inferior product that will end of costing you twice as much in the end. That should be evident in the many posts by all the sponsors here that are not related to marketing what they sell.

Not sure the info above is exactly true. IIRC We had a level 5 unit that the installer broke a pump installing the unit and then later I believe broke a pump again using a PI converter. We have seen some issues with cracked PI converter hubs. The other unit which was a level 4 suffered a hard part failure that if I remember correctly was a rear 4 pinon planet or broken forward piston. The piston for the input drum is currently being upgraded and a new billet piston is being used in all units eliminating this failure. As for the planet issue these things happen at times with 4 pinion planets but they are upgraded in the level 5 units with a 5 pinion Delco planet. We did offer to upgrade this unit for the customer. In a 6000lb truck that rating would not be the same due to the weight. Make sense? We have customers in the 750-800rwhp in Fbodies and vets in that range however these units have billet output shafts in them and a couple even have some of our billet input shafts in them. We are currently working on a new unit to surpass the the level 5. In my opinion this will be the strongest trans on the market however these things take time to do the R&D on and currently we are almost there. There are a couple other things I am still working on for this unit. I believe this unit might be available very soon as I have built a couple already for select customers. Also at 800rwhp you need to be smart with these transmissions. Manual downshifts, 4-2 kick down shifts and other forms of abuse on a 4l60e will not last forever. It is not a matter of if it will break, it is more a matter of when. Feel free to give us a call to discuss your combination. Vince

I'm excited to see this new unit as well. FLT's at it again, making the best unit on the market even better. Mine's ticking away as solid as the day I bought it. With the quality and longevity of Vince's units, it's going to be a LONG time before I need to send this one in, but I've got to admit I'm tempted to just to get some of these new upgrades they have available!

Can't beat Performabuilt. Great products, and the best costumer service I have ever had!

All these 3 are good though..

I voted PerformaBuilt. I rocked the 4L60E tranny for 2 1/2 years and was running over 800 hp w/hundreds of passes with no failure and it never let me down.
