replacing shift solenoid A and B in a 460le
I had a code P0756 for shift solenoid B CKT performence or stuck off. So i need to change out solenoid B and im going to change A as well. How hard is it to do this? and would anybody happen to have step by step instructions? The car is a 1998 camaro z28 A4. Thanks

Just drop the pan and u will see all the soleniods.....do u have an aftermarket converter?....some times it will throw those codes with stalls 3000 or bigger but theres actually not anything wrong.

its a stock trans., so all i gotta do is drop the pan and ill see both solenoid A and B ? and all i gotta did is pull them out and replace them ? also would you happen to have a image with the pan off of which solenoids A and B are ?

yea i've seen it done and its a pretty straight forward job. Drop pan and if i remember correctly they are towards the rear of the trans. they just like snap or have a clip thats holds them in. couldn't tell ya which is A or B though.

I don't see a converter listed So I would just change the solenoids they are easy but be careful while one will feel loose which is normal the other is spring loaded and remove it slowly so the stuff behind it dosent come popping out on to the floor .

Will changing the solenoids most likely fix the problem with my transmission? i have first and second gear and third gear kicks in at 3k rpms. Never had any problems with it shifting before i changed the trans. fluid and never had problems for about a week after i changed it.

you wouldnt happen to have any step by step instructions you could give me after i get the pan dropped? i dont want to pull a solenoid out and some unknown part flys out and i dont know how to put it back in lol

Replacing these solenoids is pretty self explanatory. The A solenoid will have some tension on it due to the 1-2 shift valve having some spring tension. When you remove the clip that keeps it in place, make sure to hold the solenoid so it and the valve do not go flying. If you have a HD-2 kit, there is a small spring and ball inside the steel valve. These pieces generally stay in place unless you do not hold the solenoid while removing the clip. If you do not hold the solenoid there is a chance that you will launch the valve body components. Other than that the b solenoid will not be under tension. Simply remove the clip and then remove the solenoid. When you go to reinstall the solenoids make sure to lightly lube the o-ring on the solenoid and reinstall it. Make sure that your retaining clips are fully seated on the solenoids and reconnect the wiring harness connectors for the solenoids. Make sure not to install the harness connector on the wrong solenoid. You will see that the harness connectors come out of the loom in two different positions. So this should be easy to figure out which goes where. Other than that you are pretty much done with fixing your valve body. Make sure to get a new pan gasket and maybe even a new filter. While your in there change it. I like to use fibre pan gaskets on the 4l60e. They are usually black or brown in color. They seal very well with flat and clean surfaces. Make sure the pan and transmission pan rail are clean and dry. Reinstall the pan with your new gasket and all of the bolts. Snug all the bolts down lightly and make sure not to cross thread any of these bolts. Then it is time to torque them down. If you have a inch pound torque wrench I suggest 98-108inlb. If you do not have a torque wrench then use a 1/4" ratchet. Do not be a gorilla when tightening these otherwise you will distort the pan and or the gasket creating a leak. Fill the trans with oil and you are done. If you have been getting codes for the solenoids this would be a good time to clear the history and go for a test drive.

Ok Me and my GF Just replaced mine last night both 1-2 and 2-3..(She dosent know about cars but she is always willing to help. I guess that cool)..I think it should be noted that the clip that holds the solenoid in place you have to pull down..Our dumb asses didnt realize that till 10 minutes later..
Anyway ....Transmission Gods......This should fix the problem..I hade a code for the solenoid 2 being stuck or something of that nature...I deleted it..At First there was nothing no noise....
Then It was like a Horrible vibration from 2-3,..And it would take longer to get into 2nd in the RPMS...tHE VIBRATION would literaly shake the cabin and car..And it was LOUD!..
But when getting on the pedal, it dosent make the vibrtion at all...
Any ideas?..Im gonna test drive it now..
