Default 4L65E into G-body what Tail etc.?

I purchased a 4L65E from a 05 GTO thats going into my 86 Monte SS.. Need to know what applications to search for regarding the tail end for correct trans crossmember mount..

And the next and possibly the most difficult is what to do about the shift mechanism in terms of what application would retrofit to allow standard column shifting as I would like to retain the split bench seats and not have to swap out for buckets and a center console, new steering wheel, etc..

Not sure if this info is necessary for guidance, but adding in the event there are other considerations for my plans as I see there is a module directly on the 4L65E shift linkage (Not sure if needed or what its function is) However, if this helps, I purchased this set-up to retain cruise functionality by way of drive by wire for which I will have a tach module and harness.

Any help, suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Not sure about crossmember position , But I do know the colum shifter will work. The positions will work fine just like they did with the 200r4.
The black box on the side is the neutral saftey switch.
You will want to remove that and replace the linkage shaft with one from anf F BODY,CAPRICE, IMPALA,83 UP- 700r4,4l60e,
The tail housing from the GTO should work fine.
The exsisting 2004r driveshaft will be aprox 3 inchs to long so you will also have to address that.

Thanks, how is the shaft removed? Is it pretty straight forward to perform?

I figured as such as i recall having to shorten the driveshaft when I had an 85 SS that I put a 700R4 in.

Thanks.. Looking at it again it does appear to have the 2 bolt holes for the style of trans mount I need.. I guess I was looking at the residual GTO bracket still attached..

found some diagrams and see a retainer for the shaft.. Looks like you need to remove the retainer from the inside to replace the shaft? Is this correct? Pictured 83 and 84 in the diagram

Thanks,

Matt

Ok,

I think I found what I need but I noticed that the shaft I'm replacing the GTO linkage shaft with is shorter on the inside as well.

The GTO linkage shaft extends into a small pilot hole on the inside.

Is this Necessary? or will the shaft that I have work fine without extending into this pilot hole? Below are images of both side by side (GTO shaft on the left)

Thanks, Matt

Answered my own question..

The short one is out of a 350.. GRRRRRRR

I ordered the correct shaft for $10.00 but I didnt take any pictures.. But as I suspected the 4L60\700R4 shaft does need to extend into the pilot as does the one thats too long on the outside.
