looking at swapping to a 700. want to keep overdrive and have a manual valve body.
even thou my car is a 97. i have a 6.0 gen iii iron block in the car. still using the 97 trans and converter, so i'd be re-using the converter in the swap. are there any years that are better to get for the swap.
found a 700 from a 88 safari 4.3L, would this be a good one to start with. i'd obviously be rebuilding it
I cant tell you enough times NOT TO.. I swapped from T56 to 700r4 - had 2,000 $ in the trans flywheel, and 3800 edge lock up converter.. all top of the line stuff..- tranny went out in prolly 50 miles.. - had it rebuilt UNDER WARRANTY 3 times - same thing all went out within 200 miles. took it elsewhere- had them rebuild it- same deal..- and this guy built my bullet proof 700r4 for my 86 IROC z28 back in the day when i build it all up and that f*cker never missed a beat..
My 94 LT1 abliterates 700r4's like they arent there..
DO NOT SWAP TO A 700R4!!!!!!
But i can help you in swapping if you REALLY are set on it..

not really much help there....more interested in whats interchangeable between a 4l60e and 700 r4, do i need a certain year to be able to get the speedo to read and stuff like that.
Why don't you just put a manual kit in the 4L60E that you already have in there ??
i thought about this, but pretty sure that it uses the electronics to set the trans pressures and thats my problem. after a burnout, the trans doesn't hold the same pressure as before.
i can drive around all day stomping on it everywhere, it holds. do a burnout and the pressure is gone, and everything i have tried in the pcm hasn't helped and i'm not getting any codes
