Okay guys so I was talking to a local tranny builder about getting mine installed and what I was doing etc etc. He seemed very interested in wanting to build my 4L80 to hold power and he has rebuilt these before but not with performance/aftermarket parts. So my question is when building a 4L80 to handle 700+rwhp is there any tips out there that I should let him be aware of? And here is a parts list that I compiled is there anything else I would need and what I don't?
1) 4L80 from a 2002 Chevy Van
2) Yank torque converter 3200 stall
3) Wiring Harness
4) Yank Crossmember
5) TH400 yoke
6) Lokar Dipstick
7) Transmount
Now for the rebuild parts:
1) OD roller clutches
2) Overrun clutches
3) forward clutches
4) direct clutches
5) seals
6) gaskets
7) 34 sprag
8) a bushing kit
9) bonded pistons
10) transgo shift kit
11) low roller clutch
12) pressure manifold switch
13) billet servo
14) thrust washer
15) TCC reg valve kit
16) overhaul kit (if I get the tci master kit what won't I need)
17) intermediate clutches
18) Kolene steels

You need an aftermarket input shaft and forward hub for that power level.
I rollerize a couple of locations that require a torrington bearing and machining.
Your builder better know how to setup the 3rd gear circuit or you'll be pulling it out pretty often for 3rd gear clutches at that power level.
You don't need the Kolene steels. Marketing gimmick IMO.
Otherwise a good rebuild using new clutches, bands, solenoids, etc will work. It doesn't have to be fancy but the stock input shaft is weak and the forward hub is 50/50 at that power level.
Thanks for the input I plan on buying all this stuff tomorrow. So include the hub and input shaft ok will do. But what do you mean by having to know about the 3rd gear circuit? By that umm I think it was some kind of retainer that has to be installed at 3 o'clock? Sorry not tranny savy plus I was looking into it about a year ago so I don't remember then name of the part. And what is rollerizing?

There is a snap ring that needs to be upgraded too, I install a HD snap ring for the intermediate pressure plate.
It needs to be at the 3 o clock position.
The 3rd gear circuit needs to be addressed. It is too weak for big power applications. Easy fix but the builder needs to be familiar how to do so and on a 4L80E I do some additional mods to the circuit as well so there isn't a shift delay.

10)12V Relay to power new harness (if its a LSXtune harness)
11)Shifter
12)Shifter harness for rev. lights and safety switch
While the trans is out.. grind the top "ear" off the 4L80E bell. Also.. clearance the tunnel for the 80E harness.

okay so what would have to be done to fix that problem is there a part I need to buy or is that apart of the shift kit? I have never worked on a transmission so I am not sure where you're actually talking about.

I am using the speartech harness but I am keeping the 4L60 shifter and just doing like what was said to make it work. But I got the cooler and flexplate I guess I should have put stuff that I already have too.

Taken from one of jakeshoe's write-ups: "TransGo kits contain a heavy snap ring to help this, I use a center support snap ring from a 200-4R. Some performance vendors sell a brace that helps prevent case lug breakage. One of the keys is to keep line pressure under 250 psi if possible."
I don't use the 200-4R snap ring anymore, I use one from a different application that isn't beveled.
That should also say 220 psi, not 250. 250 psi in a TH400 or 4L80E, the snap ring isn't going to help you much
180 psi is adequate to near 1000 FWHP in a 400 or 4L80.
where can I get this snap ring? PM me if you can't post and is this the snap ring that goes in at the 3:00 position? Sorry the rebuild book is in the mail, but I am curious on what is being done with my car.

jake i would love some more info on the 3rd gear fix if possible please. i dont realy have the coin to have a box built in the states 4l80e's are new here haha PM me if you would not like it on the forums
Sorry guys,
I have spent countless hours figuring out some of the tricks I use for the 3rd gear circuit on a 4L80E as well as how to fix the problems some other builders and valve body kits create.
I no longer give this information out.

Wow not even in a pm? Could you just explain what the 3rd gear circuit is for sum of us uneducated guys

I make a living building performance transmissions and some of the tricks I have learned building 4L80Es are the same as the older units, but I've also learned a few differences.
Some of the build tricks I use I've realized aren't being done by other supposed "performance" transmission builders. I don't plan to give the information away.
When the transmission fails at 500 HP because the builder doesn't understand how to work with the hydraulics, only how to make it shift firm, that's where my experience pays off.
You don't see Rossler, TCI, FLT, or others telling people all their build tricks. There is a reason.
Okay maybe I worded it wrong but I just want to make sure that this thing will be reliable so I wanted to know what to look for to make it so. But I have no clue what you meant by 3rd gear circuit. I am still learning about the tranny so I am just curious as I am not a builder I am just in a area that lacks a decent performance shop. I just wanna make sure I have my ducks in a row and trust me you have nothing to worry about with the shop I am going to they are just a local shop.
