Default questions about owning a shop?

like the title says. i have a few questions about owning my own shop. im 17 and a senior in highschool. im going to a local tech school in raleigh nc (wake tech) for auto mechanics starting in the spring to get some if not all of my prerequisite classes out of the way. i want to own my own performance shop specializing in GM, LSx/LTx. pretty much anything that has a LSx/LTx in it. my questions are for those of you guys that own your own shops or even work for a shop specializing in LSx/LTx. what kind of traing and schooling did you get. and how should i got about owning my own shop? i know that im not going to own my own shop for a couple of years yet. so ill probably find either a GM dealership or a shop that works on GM cars/trucks. and help and direction would be appreaited.

Default shop

The best thing you can do is work for other people for awhile. get your name out and learn everything you can, i have an impressive resume for custom and metal fab but it boils down to im a 21 year old "kid" and people that dont know me dont trust me. thats going to be your biggest challange. Making people trust you with their cars, your gonna do that by working in shops and getting cars on the road.

Ive owned a LSx performance business for almost 7 years now. I dont feel any type of training or schooling can give you the knowledge you need to successfully run this type of business without years of experience and knowledge inside and out of every detail relating to the type of cars you're working on.

You may have all the knowledge in the world on how to do installations and mechanical work but that will not get customers in the door and spending their $, it takes alot more.
