Default Car Advertising

I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this, but it seems that all I see for GM commercials are for their truck/SUV line-up. Why do they not promote cars like the new Malibu, Cobalt SS, G8, and the new Camaro, they have spent millions on designing the new cars, but very little on TV commercials, which is where you get the exposure to the mainstream public.
I see ads in car magazines, but little to no exposure in other formats. If I was GM I would be trying to get the public pumped up on the new Camaro with some cool TV commercials, and also do some commercials that incorporate several types of cars together. Pontiac failed to promote the GTO enough, and it looks like the G8 GT/GXP are going to follow the same road. I understand that the truck and SUV market was GM`s bread and butter, but that has changed and they really need to show off their other products.
I am curious to see if anyone else agrees with this or what your thoughts are.

Because everyone on the GM Executive payroll has brain cancer and they can't see the changing face of America.

I don't blame them. If I was totally rich I wouldn't of had to of notice how other people are living now either.

Yes, Tom. I am calling you out.

Because for every malibu on the lot there is 50 2008 trucks. They are trying to dump them all before they are two model years old. It's a good time to buy one if you need one like I do.

No matter what they are pushing, they just seem flat. They really need to put a spark in the market place and they have the cars to do it, but they just don`t have the advertisers to pull it off. I think they really need to push the mpg image, and the performance end of the market. If you look at what Toyota , Honda, and Nissan have to offer the market is really wide open . The domestic car company`s really need to attack the foreign markets on the quality control issues and the home market loyalty . If I were a domestic car manufacture there is no way I would lay down like what I see happening; I would fight back!!

I think you are right on the mark with this.

Imports are pushing targeted imaginary towards the general consumers. It is what they want to hear. They have kiddie ads and adult ones, too.

GM needs to get commercials with a mantra that reminds the consumer that GM has MPG. It has jazz. It is reliable and cost effective. It is "kool."

The average consumer isn't going to sit around all day and read reviews. What they hear/see in a commercial or some stupid gimmick they see on the lot is going to sell the car.

Personally, I hate gimmick commercials and I appreciate the fact that GM commercials are usually professional and not annoying. But, GM needs to get into the game and appease the sheeple NOW because sometimes it takes years to shake a stigma.

I don't watch much TV, but I've seen quite a few Pontiac commercials. Maybe it's just the sporting events my local brewpub usually shows, idunno.

I noticed the G8 is now the official performance machine of the NCAA now, not the G6. All during college football I was seeing G8 ads and Hybrid Caddy ads.

The reason the Colbat, Malibu, etc don't get face time is the current GM mindset. They think they need to lure you onto the lot with something cool, a big truck, a fast car, etc and then do a bait and switch. The GM Execs refuse to understand that a regular old sedan could draw people.
