Default GTR loses launch control next year!

http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightlin...h-control.html

With the Internet bursting with ugly tales of GT-R launch control abuse, broken transaxles and void warranties, a nasty rumor began; that the 2010 Nissan GT-R won't have launch control.

Could it be? Really?

So we asked and asked and asked. We asked three Nissan employees: one from the public relations department, one from engineering and one high-ranking executive. The first two confirmed its removal was being considered seriously, but the decision had not yet been made. Then the high-ranking executive confirmed the bad news.

"It's gone," he said when asked if launch control would return in 2010. "We just don't want to deal with the warranty nightmare anymore. It'll make the 2009 GT-R really special. It'll be the only R35 with launch control." -- Kelly Toepke, News Editor

Oh well...so much for those super quick stock quarter mile times.
Car will still be pretty fast (and heavy LOL) though.

It appears that the car isn't quite the big seller that many thought it was going to be.

I wonder how fast will it do the 1/4 mile time without it.

I am sure people will be adding it on, either way why spend that much money on a car that can't even handle its own power without breaking.

The GTR has been timed by Motor Trend with zero to 60 mph times of 3.9 seconds without launch control: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/24/n...m-launch-cont/

Mildly modded GTRs like the one in the following video are going 10s without launch control.

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/A...088_201390.htm

But it was a mistake for Nissan to include a feature that would void the warranty, and to also use a transmission that costs $20,000 to replace. Seriously, WTF?

Thats because all of the fanboys are still in their altima/sentra/versa leases. Nissan doesn't have the overall heritage in this country to support the GTR considering the times we are in. The launch control debacle couldn't help much either. How many Gran Turismo fans can really afford one. I know I can't.

To me, that seems like such wasted potential, but oh well.

Does anybody know if that's a mechanical feature of the tranny or if its just a button and some programming that's getting removed?

I've been saying this since the GTR was announced as an $80k car. Those who want it, can't afford it...those who can afford it, have no interest in it. Destined for failure.

Just like the Supra...priced out of it's target demographic.

I wouldn't be surprised if the car makes a little more power as well. I agree that it's over-priced for the targeted demographic.

Personally, a car that just about drives itself is not at all appealing to me. If I COULD afford a GTR I wouldn't buy one over a Z06, Viper, or 911.

Now they can rip the page out of the manual that says your warranty is void...I heard people talking about the 09's being "collector's cars" due to the launch control option....this car is going to die very soon if the price is not lowered and the electronics keep taking a shit.

It will be just like all of the prior performance Nissan vehicles....."Discontinued". The Nizmo market is vocal, but they don't support the vehicles. 300Zx, 2 door SER, 240SX. You can throw the Supra for Toyota in there too. They just don't have the demand for performance vehicles that lets say; Corvette has. The numbers don't lie.

They simply need to remember who their competition is. They just can't play in the same league as Corvette, Viper, and Porsche. They've learned now that simply having a car that competes on paper isn't enough. You've got to compete in all aspects in the real world...this includes value and quality.

If they had entered the market with a $40k car that could come within striking distance of the base Vette while running with the new Camaro SS, GT500, and Challenger SRT8...they might be onto something that could last. Instead they've created an $80k punchline.

Thats true. A 350z with a power adder maybe. That is a good performing car as it is. The G37 is making 330hp, maybe even get that to 350-360 n/a in the 3300lb Z and you should have a decent seller and great performer.

Yes, that new 370Z looks like it could be an interesting ride, as long as they didn't add too much weight and kick the price up too much it could be a strong little performer.
