| Toyota Tacoma "Living Up to Our Commitment" Here's a great blog on Toyota site and of course its not a "Recall", they are just extending their warranty "we’re extending the rust-perforation warranty". How thoughtful of them to be so nice! I feel so much better about them now!
Not sure about rust proofing, but when I was doing competitor teardowns on small trucks, both Toyota and Nissan had the thinnest frames in class. The Ranger was thickest in class (No surprise), with the S10 being a little thinner than the Ford. Glass is also typically thicker on the American vehicles. http://blog.toyota.com/2008/03/living-up-to-ou.html

| Yeah I'd heard about that serious rusting frame problem on the Tacomas...unfortunately most of the rest of the world was conveniently kept in the dark about it...or they at least chose not to acknowledge/hear it.
If it were GM or Ford that tried to sell the American public some crap like that it would be front page news day after day in all of the major newspapers. |

| +1- if american manufacturers had this problem, it would be on the front page every day for weeks- remembr the Ford Exploder debacles? Or 60 minutes faking fuel tank fires on american pickup trucks?
But, no, Japan Inc can do no wrong- even when Toyota engines sludge up, it must be fault of the owner- when the frames rust through, they just extend the warranty-
I will give them props on how they handled the situation- most of those people will probably buy Toyota again- good customer relations, unlike my experiences with GM where you have to jump through hoops for warranty claims, and every step of the way they fight you-

| The Japanese companies will call it anything other than a recall. It's all part of that "saving face" thing that is so big in their world.

| haha. i had a 99 tacoma that toyota bought back from me in may for $13,600. I paid $7500 for it 1.5 years earlier. Easiest profit ive ever made. I turned around and bought my 02 formula with the cash...no bullshit in the process either..."ok, your truck has a hole in the frame. You'll recieve a check in 3 weeks. here's a free rental car."
Toyota screwed up and are being responsible. i probably will never buy another toyota, but at least they are easy to deal with. the same cannot be said for issues with gm cars imo....

Well, I am at least glad that YOU made some profit from the Nippon Giant, unlike the millions of U.S. citizens they put out of work (DESPITE their 'transplants'!).
50 layer flame suit going on now for the Econ 101er, 'globalist', "free"<-(what an F'ING JOKE!!) trader, NO protectionism onslaught.

| Imagine that...Toyota taking care of their customers. That's more than I can ever say for anything GM has done as my roof paint continues to bubble
Bag on them all you want about their quality...they stand behind their products, and THAT is why people continue to not support our economy. GM's quality doesn't need to change...their business practices, however, do.

| while im not a fan of toyota i dont think this problem falls under a recall. i believe recalls are forced by our govt and are safety related which this isnt. its a defect that toyota is handling the right way. their trucks are junk compared to the big three.

if these holes didn't hurt the integrity/strength of the frame none of us would have ever heard anything about it |

| I will take a Tacoma over any other mid-size truck. Do you think GM would have done this for their S-10 pickups if they found rust? I would say.........NO!!! I see not shit was done for the roof bubbling issue, except for a short time that I didn't know nor receive a letter about. Call it recall, whatever, at least they're fixing it. |

Let us not forget that the S-10s did NOT have rusting frames. |

What if window motors went out? (mine have not gone out by the way )
What if the navigation buttons flaked off in the CTS-V?
LOL....thats all I got off the top of my head. I guess no car is issue free, but as long as it gets resolved. |

| i find it funny how they recall these trucks. i have repaired more toyota truck frames than any other truck that i have worked on. they say these trucks are really bad for rusting. but the ones that i repaired were the 88-94 style trucks(that generation)
so how is it that these get recalled but not hte older ones? i have been repairing these frames for years now.
