If it didn't it would open up unfair trade practice lawsuits. The government doesn't need that. Those plants employ US citizens and they are protected just like pure US companies. Its sad yes but it saves money in the long run so I guess its a necessary evil. Trust me I hate it just as much as you but the reality is they get the same treatment.

That's actually a GOOD thing that Honda and Nissan are getting in on the bailout. That way a few years down the road import fanboys won't be saying, "The only reason crappy American cars are still around is because the government bailed them out", because Honda and Nissan got help too.

I'm not too happy about the import nameplates getting in on this as well, but IF that's the ONLY way it would pass, then so be it.
As long as the shlemmings' fave TOYota does NOT get a piece of this, then I WOULD most definitely take some action!!!
WHY should we give even more to a FOREIGN company that has enough
capital to STILL be "in the black" EVEN IF it had "in the red" years for the next hundred years?!?! (Which it WILL NOT BE anyway!!)

C'mon Stevie, and the other I.D.L.ers/TOY worshippers, PLEASE "push back" on this one!!

I guess legalities play a part in it like Manalishi says but it's still a shocker to see that!! Any German brands been building cars here for 20 years or more that can also get in on a piece of the pie?

I understand that all automakers are in deep considering how bad the economy is. But to think the American gov. is going to give japanese automakes money is just stupid. If we built cars in japan, do you think the japanese gov. would give us money a bailout loan? Nope they might send us to hell just for even thinking about it.

I agree, that falls into the same level as helping countries that don't like us very much. So is this loan to nissan and honda a for sure thing, or just a supposed rumor floating around?
-Joel

*Yeah i just read it again, basically since they have plants that have been here for over 20 years they qualify. What a fucking joke!

Reminds me of earlier this year when I was in Egypt and happened to be around/involved when an American ship carrying military cargo back to the US shot and killed two vendors who had gotten too close to the ship (our fault). My experiences with those particular Egyptians are not the best and their is alot of unspoken animosity between us yet our country continues to provide theirs with lots and LOTS of finanicial support for their role in the Suez Canal. Bunch of BS if you ask me!

They qualify for it but who's to say or know if they are gonna apply for some of the money! My guess is sure why not since it's there and presumably at a good interest rate.

They are a forgein automaker that can apply for an american gov. loan, they must be crazy not to accept it. C'mon this is the american gov. not like they will need to pay us back anyways, or like we would ask them to.

i assume our govt is concerned with americans employed by these foreign automakers which i can understand trying to preserve those jobs. honestly i could care less if any of them go under. it would mean more marketshare for the big three to get.
