Don't do it! Unless you seal it REALLY well your car will smell like gas. Just unbolt the 2 straps and wiggle the tank out, just make sure the tank has only 1-2 gallons of gas in it.

caulk isn't expensive. i mean really how hard is it to seal two pieces of metal against atmospheric pressure?personally i think its a great idea, also considering lots of cars COME with these access panels....

It isn't that easy. If it were more people would do it. Your car will not smell like gas if you make sure the O ring is in place. I have done this on 2 cars and have had 0 issues. You will be the only one who knows the hole is there and you will thank yourself for doing it later! Cutting the hole will take no more than 15-20 minutes at the most compared to trying to drop the tank which in most cases will require the rear to be dropped.

If I am not mistaken you have to buy the whole assembly. You might as well as they will go out when you least expect it. Like the gas station or grocery store. My luck is it never happens at home!
