Default best potential mod for aprox $400

I had the fastest car in town till a kid bought a 03 cobra with a 250 shot..... and its killing me.
MY SETUP:
02 ss camaro
ls1
ls6 vette cam (VERY mild)
ls6 intake mani.
posi
342's
3000 stall
ram air
3" exhaust
and a tune

Do i need a bigger cam?
i NEED to go faster without blowin shit up and $500 at the max

ANY ideas?

Have all the bolt-on's done yet? A bigger cam would require upgraded springs and to be safe, better timing chain and ported LS6 oil pump, ect. and that'll cost over $500 if you want to do it right.
I would say nitrous is your friend, but then again you're looking at going over $500 for that as well.

it's not worth blowing up your car to beat some spoiled kid.

you've got a small cam, a small stall, and an exhaust.
he has more power than you stock PLUS a 250 shot.
it's not even close to fair.

if you're hellbent on beating this kid though get yourself a dry kit. the stock tune is pretty good for about a 100-150 shot. don't know what your tune is like though. anyway, search the classifieds. i've found a bunch of kits for like $200. then spend the rest on safety equipment for the kit.

and then if/when you blow up i'll take your cam, intake, and hood

Well first we need to know:

BY HOW MUCH? Is he kicking your butt??

A simple 4.10 may wake it up

Of course you know he will just up the ante.....heheeh

This will cost you much more than $500 later........

410s wont make up the diffrence here trust me a cobra is 390hp stock thats about 360rwhp plus a 250 shot equals ur need alot of money 2 catch up.

best thing 2 do get some 373s and full boltons tune and race him all the time. put up 5$ per race i know those motors are forged but it still shouldnt take long to blow it up on a stock tune. probably round three hard runs one after another. because nitrous does major damage with driver error.

he only has me by about 2 links... I would like to stay away from the 410's becuase its an A4 (very sorry i forgot to mention that). Controversy over nitrous scares me... what could i do with $1000 or under if i just saved for a little while longer?

if he's only beating you by 2 lengths i HIGHLY doubt he's even spraying.
even with your mods i'd guess you're making about the same to the wheels as he is stock. he's either lying about the spray, or isn't using it.

and $1000 isn't gonna make up a 200rwhp advantage unless you spray. If you really wanna try to beat him on that budget that's the only way it's gonna happen(given he actually has a 250 shot). Get a window switch, WOT switch, and whatever those air/fuel shutoff safety things are called with a nitrous tune and colder plugs and what not and maybe you'd have him without blowing up.

the other kid might not know how to drive. his car might also not be in great running shape, if hes been racing it a lot.

i would suggest long tubes, lid with free ram air, ORY, then heads. build your motor right, dont just add spray.

He may be spraying it, but it probably is not a 250 hit. I would not worry about him, especially since he has TWO power adders to your zero and is only beating you by two lengths. I would probably go with some drag radials and a more aggressive cam to start with. Then on down the road, save up for a nice set of heads. But if he's only putting 2 lengths on you, a more aggressive cam will make up the difference. My choice: TSP 228R.

If an 03 cobra was spraying a 250 shot on stock motor he'd be making 650+ hp for about 5 seconds then he'd send the rods through the block.

Gears, tires, only run him from a dig...

Or you could just accept that there's always someone faster and save yourself a blown engine/10 bolt. Trying to go really fast, really cheap, usually doesn't end well.

I second that motion. If the kid is young then he will either blow it up or wreck it. I say save your money and wait for him to screw up.
