There is not a good number of ANY ls1s in the 12s.. PERIOD, no matter what the "internet" says.. It is BY FAR not the norm.. The norm is low-mid 13s with most being mid 13s..
Cobras are faster stock for stock, no if ands or buts..
With a competent driver they will run 3-4 10ths faster and trap 3-4mph faster..
From a roll it is not pretty what they do stock for stock. And usually even modded, they are tough cars to take down from a roll.
I still call BS on a 12.4, even with tires.. They just plain out don't have the power to get it there and are too heavy. Most people that take out jack/spare put a lid/catback on still cant hardly run mid-high 12s (im talking of the cars that run in negative DA.)
Anybody who claims their TRUE BONE STOCK (the way it came off the showroom floor) runs 12s needs to see what kind of DA they are running.. There is a handful out there but not many AT ALL!

My buddy ran a 12.6 stock on street tires in his 2002 SS M6...So anything is possible with the driver mod!! that's a full second faster than my stock run of 13.6!!
I've just heard about it...talked to a guy that read the article and apparently it was like 61 degrees out and they admitted it was like a miracle pass and in like the next 20 attempts the closest they got was like a 12.6 or 12.7 said the article gave all the details about the run. I forgot the name of the track though, but will try to find out again.
On another note, if theres a good number of the ss cars going 12.8s then why do people think the cobra is so much faster stock vs stock?
I'm still calling BS on a 12.4 with street tires, unless the DA was like -10000... it's not gonna happen. And like lemons said, it's very, VERY rare to have a bone stock LS1 in the 12's

You mean stock except for his catback, lid, and tires?
I don't see that happening, what was the DA?

Back in 2001 i bought a z28m6 about 1000miles on car went to baytown went 12.91.so next weekend i said hell i'll Put my buddy's et streets on car went 13.1 i slowed it down.
Its all bs. Everyone says their fbody runs these incredible times. Even guys with automatics can't do a 12.8 or a 12.9. No one runs 12.9 on a actual bonestock camaro. Cause these cars just aren't as fast as people claim I have fullboltons and I only do 12.9. And everyone else I race with that has identical mods does the same damn times.

Stock for stock with a great driver, a six speed can/will be faster than an auto. And there have been a handfull of them run 12.9's. What kind of DA are you running in?
I don't see 12.9 being out of the question for a stock car. As already stated, weather conditions, track prep, and driver skill have alot to do with ets. Though mine didn't run 12s stock, I think it was close enough to say it could be possible with a better driver and better conditions. My times were done with 125k miles on the odo. Who knows what a fresh motor would run.

I did 12.7, (6spd) with nothing more than a K/N drop in, on BFG street tires, not the DRs. Everything else was bone stock, and the car had 64K on it.
That was at Famoso, Ca. Track wasnt too sticky either.
I couldnt get under that, to save my life, and thats when I started spendin money!!
But yes, to support some of what is posted, you can get a bone stock car, to run into the HIGH 12's, it all comes down to track, weather, and the driver. Now 12.4s, really? You check your blinker fluid too huh? Come on, get real . That car would have to make 375hp at the tires @ 3650lbs... do the math, its not gunna happen.. Dream on...
Also 03-04 Cobras are not bad cars, but dont put that pussy on a pedestal neither, cuz while they have more from a "roll" damn rice racing.. They are like everyother muscle car built from the 60's till now, if you cant hook it, you aint going to do much. I have seen pullied Slow-bras running 13's....
I know this isnt a cobra vs. SS thread but also remember cobras are about double ( say 10 grand for a nice ss, and 20 grand for a nice cobra) in price, hell i got my 98 6spd Z for 3800 bucks, i could build the whole car for what it costs just to purchase a cobra...
Dont get me wrong, i love cobras and they are badass but thats just my .2 cents

It's not fair to base what these cars are capable of solely on your lack of driver skill. If you've got a full bolt-on LS1 and your running 12.90's you just plain out suck at driving, period. Unless your running at a track in high DA. It took me drag radials, no muffler and 4.11's to do that.
Guys, 12's have already been done YEARS ago! Evan Smith (editor at MM&FF) did it back in the late '90's in a '98 Z28, then again in an SS in 2001. GM High Tech also acheived this feat. This topic is like beating on a dead horse.
i highly doubt you can run that bone stock..people that have cam only cars run that time....would only believe this if i were there and looked at the car..
