I see everyone talking about DA, how much does it actually effect your time?

Big time! I hate reading people's sigs and comparing numbers to my car because I'm up here in Utah where most stock LS1 cars run low 14's. It took drag radials, a catback and 3000 stall converter to get my car to run 13.99. 2 days later I totalled it on the way to a bracket race... fuckin' huge truck tires in the middle of the road! Anyways, DA has a huge effect. Most local guys out here say they pick up close to 5 tenths when running out in California. I can believe it.

I'm here in S. Florida near sea level. Stock w/ 500 miles I ran 13.4's. But with just cut-out, free mods and lid went 12.9's. Few more bolt-ons ran 12.4's.

[quote=BLWNV10;12422265]It's not fair to base what these cars are capable of solely on your lack of driver skill. If you've got a full bolt-on LS1 and your running 12.90's you just plain out suck at driving, period. Unless your running at a track in high DA. It took me drag radials, no muffler and 4.11's to do that.

Guys, 12's have already been done YEARS ago! Evan Smith (editor at MM&FF) did it back in the late '90's in a '98 Z28, then again in an SS in 2001. GM High Tech also acheived this feat. This topic is like beating on a dead horse.[/QUOT

im not basing it on only my car. bonestock camaros with shitty street tires dont run 12.8 im sorry but they dont. if u had 50 degree weather low altitude and and DR's then sure 12s are possible(high 12s) on a "bonestock" ss. and as far as me bein a sucky driver i do pretty good for having all weather tires at the track i run at. before i ever ran my car at the track i was expecting to at least do a 13 flat based on all the bs people talk about on this site. boy was i dissapointed to run a 13.6 on a "bonestock" ss. but i guess its all about location.

As many have allready said, so many variables to consider. Im bone stock with Nitto 555 extreme tires and i have over 100k miles on my car. I ran 13.7 after driving for over an hour to the track on a very hot and humid day.

yes there are many variables, i just dont think our cars can get into the 12's being bonstock, nomatter how good a driver u are unless its the perfect location and wheather. the driver mod is important, but a car is only as fast as it is. i think ive even heard people say they run 12.2 in shit with a stock car, so whenever anyone says they ran a 12.XX 1/4 mile it seems fishy cause people do lie about thier unrealistic times.

The thing is people have different ideas of what "Bone Stock" is. If you wanna get technical i have an axle back exhaust and a shift kit. Those people who say they get 12's bone stock in shit weather could have exhaust, intake, thermostat, shift kit, and Slicks/Skinnies and consider shit weather cold and windy.

another thing is, even people with auto's dont run 12's. and it takes absolutly no skill to run an automatic down the track, cause all you u have to do is press the damn gas pedal and go.

Fail.

That might be marginally true for a truly stock car (although launch technique still isn't as easy as you seem to think). But, I guarantee that you couldn't just "press the gas pedal" on my car and expect magic to happen (before it burned, anyway).

That's true, they are obviously more consistent in the hands of the 98% of drivers...but still, don't think it's easy; especially in the much quicker than 12 sec. cars.

i dont think its that easy necasarily, but much easier than a M6. with a manual, u have to worry about bogging or shitty starts, then once u get off the line u can mis shifts or shift to early(i realize its pretty easy to shift) its the launch mostly though. but an a4 always shifts faster than a human in most cases

This sounds like a guy from another site who was claiming his bone stock 2ss Camaro was running mid/high 11's.....

so I asked him what his 60' was and he said 5.2.......

so then I laughed and asked him what his TS was and he was lost again.
then to really get his mind boggled, I asked what the DA was....and to this he just replied

"I know what I ran I got the slip in the dash"

Anyone think this idiot ran the 1/8th and is so stupid with drag racing he thought it was 1/4 ??????

wow what an idiot lol. ive had people thinking my car is front wheel drive too. i saw this video of this guy on youtube and he had a mustang gt, but he had a GTR badge on it. so these guys that taped him were asking him questions about his car. and this dude basically admitted that his car is a rare mustang gtr and when asked if his car had a rotary motor he was all like oh its a rotary lol

Take offense to this,
you suck at driving or your car is a turd, maybe both.

Just because you can't do it doesn't mean it hasn't happened. You keep going on and on based on your personal experience but everyone else is saying otherwise.
