Engine's done , the engine bay is completely stripped and sanded and I've got a good part of the undercarriage ready for the POR -15 . Seems like it takes forever to get everything just right for paint but good prep makes the result worth the effort.
Looking pretty badass man. I'm doing the LS1/T56 swap in an 87' Iroc I just bought. Paid 625 for rolling chassis w/ everything but Engine/trans (as I didn't need them). It also came with subframes. I'm budgeting this to $10,000 and 2 years. Body is in great condition, but will probably repaint due to some flaws in paint. Interior is pretty nice as well. Now, I'm doing almost exactly the same swap...87' Iroc, 305 to LS1, Auto to T56 manual. Any things you can give me a heads up on? I've heard I can pickup a 9" rear for like $1200, LS1 w/ T56 for like $3000, LS1 conversion parts (engine/tranny relocation mounts, Tubular K-member, etc) for about $1000, and such. Those sound about right? Now I don't need perfectly new stuff, I can certainly use used parts =) Any help you can give me is much appreciated. I have all the time in the world for this project...just money is going to come slow (bout $400/month towards this car). And best of luck with yours, looks like it's going to be a mean mofo.

The 9" is the only thing that sounds iffy. If you can find a used one at that price then you're doing pretty good. The exhaust is going to be another area that not's going to be cheap. There's only one company at the time of this post making an exhaust for this swap and it is right at 1000.00 .
Any true dual setups available? I don't need a full exhaust. I was hoping to get true duals anyway...and I think it would be easier to find. If usuing true duals...they wouldn't line up the approximate same as on 4th gen?

I don't know of anyone selling true duals. The 4th setup dumps out before the rear axle. Might check with Texas Speed & Performance.
great thread. I'm in the process of doing the swap, but don't have the funds for buying parts like that. I'm subscribing wanna keep on top of this project.
Gotta say I love what youre doing man. Your pictures of your progress really help me understand whats going on. =) Damn, if only my dad kept his RS, I could use this as reference. Haha. But great job man, I'll keep checkin in on your thread. Looks awesome.

I decided to scrap the IROC-Z parts except for the rear axle and the steering box. I bought the Spohn chromemoly front & rear sway set (UPS man dropped 'em off today .) and I purchased the Eibach Prokit springs. Also bought a new convertible top with the glass rear window so no more of the hazy crappy plastic rear window. I'm finally running out of parts to buy for this thing.
