Default LH8 pan...lowered car

I just got my LH8 pan on my LS2 nova with BRP motor mounts and dang this thing hangs low....I'm running adjustable coil overs with ATS spindles and I'm affraid that this thing will be only a few inches off the ground..anyone have the same problems?

If it is a problem what other pan is out there that I can use with their motor mounts?? any info would be great.

I need to know if the F body pan will clear with BRP motor mounts? I dont want to shorten the pan, I think I would open up a can of worms if I did that...

is off the H2 Hummer.
As for mount interference.... The Camaro pan does not intrude into any of the engine mount area...

i figured the camaro pan would hit the sterring linkage because of my motor mounts moving the engine further forward than most?

If the LH8 pan is a close fit, I would consider "scalping" the bottom of the pan. Cut the bottom 2 inches or so off and weld a flat piece of aluminum plate in it's place. You would also need to tap the pan for an oil drain plug as well.

You would also need to shorten the oil pickup by the same amount that you take off the bottom of the pan.

pan be modified. That's why I mentioned Street/Performance. They offer that pan, pickup tube, modified for steer clearance.

heres what I just bought. http://www.autokraft.org/products/
BTW, why are you using BRP mounts...are you installing their front rack and pinnion (!!please say NO!!). those BRP mounts move the engine really forward.

BRP made those mounts so you could use factory engine accessories and the f-body pan, BUT you have to ditch the factory steering (rear steer) and install the front steer rack out of a LS1 f-body. I hope your not doing that...

BRP no longer sells their mounts that go with their front steer rack. They now sell new mounts that use the stock steering and the LH8 pan. Trouble with the new setup is the LH8 pan hangs 2 inches below the crossmember. Do a search, there is alot of discussion about this in another thread.

made a call to autokraft today, seams they are my best solution. actually was nice to talk to someone that cared about my issue, I will be purchasing the mounts from them as well, just in case.

I called S&P to see if I could get there pan to work with these mounts, but since I dont have an F body I would have to buy theres plus pay the core charge, $500.00 later for a cut up factory pan?? not sure about that one.

The older BRP kit was designed to be able to use the F-Body pan (and would require a front R&P setup). The newer BRP kit is designed around the LH8 pan.. but IMO, it is not really a good setup if your going to lower your car any. I would look into the aftermarked pan.. or a modified pan.

Also GMPP has come out with a "Muscle Car Oil Pan" kit (but it seem it has not hit the streets yet). that might work out. As it seem to have been designed with the 60's and 70's cars in mind. It is listed in the GMPP catalog, maybe check SDPC.

The GM muscle car kit uses the LH8 oil pan.

Do they simply chop 2" off and weld a plate in, or is it a complete new casting?

The GM musclecar pan kit uses the exact LH8 oil pan, they did not make any modifications to it. The only difference is that with the musclecar pan kit you get the pan, windage tray, dipstick, dipstick tube, etc together as a kit instead of buying the individual part numbers. Well I think it also gives you a cost break over buying the individual part numbers.

That's really interesting. In the pic I saw (GMPP) it looked like it may have been an LH8 with the bottom sectioned off. Didnt look deep enough to be a full LH8. Also the capacity was lower at 5qt. Another pic I saw definately showed it as simply an LH8 kit. Complete with extra depth to take out pavement obstacles .
