You took out it's soul....

LOL!

Love it! I have been waiting along time to see this happen! Well, ever since Mazda started making them anyway.

What year camaro is that rack from? Did you keep the stock spindles? reason I ask is because I'm trying to figure out how to make my car steer.... I need a rack that works infront of the k member, as well as spindles. i know mustangs work, just looking at different options.

BIG props! Thanks to the gratuitous C130J picture!

Can't wait to see this project completed. Great idea!

I was wondering when someone would do this. I know RX8 owners are too soft for such a swap when thier wankel is running well. That should surrprise alot of people on the street, nobody respects an RX8, that will change in your area.

You might want to check out this post...

The RX8 diffy is a Mazda Short Pinion, 8" I believe. They are fairly durable, (depending what your plans for the car are) but the ratio choice is very limited. I don't know if it has been done, but I bet the 3.73s mentioned in the post would bolt in to your car...

I believe the RX8 uses a 7" ring gear.

Nice swap, but I think your driveshaft is an inch too short :/

Motorstilling-

do you still have the stock RX8 front sway bar? can I get you to measure it for me? I'm looking for one that doesn't hit the oil pan for my LS1-RX7, and looking at the RX8 bar it looks to fit the bill... but I haven't found measurements anywhere.

Andrew,

I'll defer to you concerning questions on Mazda diffs, since most of what I know I learned from reading posts from you and Ray, but I believe the carrier shims are the same on the FD and the 8... Would that indicate the -8 runs an 8" ring gear?

http://www.mazdatrix.com/8-Diff.htm

Edit: Kaaz lists the same part #s for the FC Turbo, FD and RX8...

meh, I would agree that the RX8 is lacking in the power department...but they aren't that bad.

Quote:
the rotary sucks
not sure what that means but...to each their own i suppose.

Purchasing a rotary engine equipped vehicle comes with inherent risks and rigorous maintenance schedules. They are decent engines...just not necessarily a turn-key engine like piston types. I own four RX-7's and three of them run, and run very well. The fourth, was purchased from a teen who played video games an knew nothing about life let alone cars!! This one is receiving the LS transplant!!

Now, I definitely like the idea of the LS engine into the RX8!

wow this thread has brought me back from the grave!
I sold my LS1FC rx7 about 2 years ago, its alive and well in L.A. CA, then I bought an STI, sold it and now drive a Civic DD to save $$$ for the incoming baby, but wow man an LS1RX8 would be a great family sportcar! especially with the RX8 prices falling now that so many are approaching 100k miles and certain rotary-doom and out of the extra-ectended 100k warranty.

more pics and more info please'''z'z'z'z'z

Nice looking swap. I know plenty have talked about it, but this is the first one I've seen actually done. Nice work.
