Figured I post my build tread for my Single turbo LS1 build in my TJ
Currently I'm building a 1997 Jeep wrangler with a Ls1/4l60e out of a 98 Camaro. I have plenty of room for a single turbo setup in front of the engine and for a front mount intercooler in front of the new aluminum radiator in the grill. I also can mount the turbo high or low with a good amount of room in the engine bay. I'm going to try to post pics of how much space I have.
Previously I had a fresh Ford 302 c6 tranny and ford transfer case and It sucked, Constantly had to screw with the 4 barrel and never quite got all the ponies out of it that i wanted running a carb. Jeep came from PA. and had heavy heavy heavy salt rust so I decided to pull the body off, sand blast and paint the frame and treat any rust I found while doing the engine swap to a LS1.
So far just to do the Engine sway I have had to change the fuel pump to a Walbro 255, "stock Psi was internally regulated @ 49 psi", All new engine mounts,Daystar 1" body lift, take the tail shaft off the 4l60e and change the output shaft to a short 4x4 one. New exhaust, Radiator, Fuel lines, Fuel regulator, tubing for a intake and Air filter, Adapt the LS wiring harness to the stock Jeep one, new radiator hoses, replaced all brake line with stainless ones.
Also to mention, I re-undercoated the entire underside of the body, cut the radiator shell for my ebay front mount, Core size is 23 x 12 x 3
I have some more cutting and welding to fit the turbo manifold and cross over tube still. I have more updates .
some updates, tired to get alot done this weekend and well really didn't. I work at Propartsllc.com, I design engineer and build racing gauges for nascar, offshore boat, Baja, just about any kind of racing. Propartsllc.com If anyone is interested in getting some gauges just PM me directly I can let stuff go for about half of what its listed for on our site.
Cut down the stock filler cap and got a Moroso cap welded onto my passanger side Valve cover to clear the turbo. Also got a bung for the A.I.T. sensor and Flange for my JGS 60mm Blow off valve.
Lookin good! what kinda welder are you using for the aluminum? That's a good idea with the cap on the valve covers, I could use some clearance there as well. Let us know how it runs when you get everything done.
I'm pretty nether are actually a Jeep. I think the term "Jeep" was loosely used, like saying 4x4 or truck. Its for sure a v8, but I don't hear a Turbo......
man, that ls1 looks right at home!
u should look into getting some 317 heads for your engine, make more power with same psi, able to run even more psi.
I've been trying to talk my brother into doing this FOREVER!!!!!
He has the stock 2.5L with NO power steering, and stock gears with 31" mud tires.
Doesn't even get to 70mph.
Highway mileage is acctually WORSE than round-town!!!
Your ride is exactly what i've always wanted to do
I see you've stuck with the NP231, what VSS are you using? Is the stock jeep VSS a 4000-pulse/mile unit? I need to figure out how/which vss to use and what wires go where if I use the stocker.
the np231 has HD chevy 231 internals. 700.00 is alot cheaper then 2,000 for an atlas. I'm using a Spek Speedo with its teach and learn function, will work with any speed sensor and super easy to setup.
