I know alot of people have drilled and tapped the piece of the oilpan for an oil pressure guage, but can I just replace the oil pressure sending unit withan aftermarket peice that will work with a electric guage?
I thought so too, but I was ordering my harness from speartech and asked about this. And they told me that it was not seen by the computer. If that was the case I was going to have them add a wire for a guage off of the computer. If I am mistaken please let me know
Only the newer PCM`s see the oil pressure. The 1998-2002 do not see it at all, you can remove the oil pressure sensor without it even noticing. Starting around 2003 (think green and blue PCM connectors) is when the PCM started seeing oil pressure.

Yep you will just need to get a metric to american adapter to be able to thread your sender in.

As G-Body said, you don't need it for the earilier Computers.. what I did was took the pressure sensor.. broke the plastic part off, drill and tap for the correct thread size of your after market or OEM sensor.. and use it as the adapter.. Cost Zero.. I have my OEM idiot light sensor at that top location using my home made adapter ..
I am not running oil pressure sensor on my setup. L92 / E38 ECM, sensor was broken off when I got the motor and I didnt feel like buying it since I wasnt going to use it. I took the wires out of the harness for it, and shut the codes off using HPTuners. Runs fine.
