Default 5.3l 1989 240sx Winter Build

Well after owning a Supercharged 2001 Ford Focus and then blowing it up..... Ive decided (with the help of good friends) to "re"-start an old build. Back about 5-6 years ago me and my dad started on a 305 sbc 240sx build. Got a fresh rebuild on the motor set it in and then lost interest and time. So after about 5 years of sitting without being sealed properly I have a 305 that cracked and rusted to hell. A.K.A. its no good at all anymore .......... SO its been sitting for maybe 4 months with no motor in it in my garage awaiting its new build.

Been browsing the last month for anything from a 5.3 to 6.0 and ended up getting a 2004ish 5.3 with 100k on it this last weekend for $350 in great shape too.

Probably gonna leave the internals alone since it rolled over with good compression. but some time this week im going to pull off the intake and coils and etc. get it ready to clean up and paint. Ill update with new parts, pictures and any problems/tricks i find along the way. Going the budget/do it yourself way cuz i wanna drive it asap!

Nice, I've got an 84 RX7 with a little 305 in my garage, right next to my very own 5.3 truck motor =)

Let us know how your cleanup is going, thats where I'm at right now as well.. Be curious if you find any way of cleaning up the valve covers to look new again, mine had some stains on them that just wouldn't come up, even with steel wool.. damn die cast..

Anywho, cool build

Ran a 13.54 last year, but had a lot going against me. Street tires, crappy converter, junk carb, junk trans... it just goes on and on, lol. Its pretty much sorted now, but never got a chance to run it again.

I know I'm keeping the truck coils on my build, evidently they're an upgrade to the ls1 coils. Or you could sell/trade them to get some other ls1 goodies.

Getting badges made or anything? I debated doing so on my 7, ended up just taking them all off, and never putting them back on. Now I get people asking, "what the heck is this car?" They usually guess corvette, but I've heard some good ones. lotus? no... z-car? no... kinda amusing that way
