Default Car Craft Magazine announces Engine Swap Drags Event

Just an FYI for all you guys.

Car Craft just announced the 2010 Engine Swap Drags to be held in March at SpeedWorld in Arizona. The announcement hasn't hit their site yet, so they gave us all the details and said to spread the word.

In general, it's heads up, NA and Power Adder classes, LSX, Mod Motor, or Hemi, in '92 and earlier American rear drive cars and trucks. It's open to anyone, and every single entry will get in Car Craft Magazine. Class winners and quickest for each engine family will also win prize packages from Ford, GM, and Chrysler.

For all the rules, details, and discussion, check it out here.

Hmmm cross country drive to race the daily driver......well I got shut down on every week of vacation I asked for during next summer, maybe I should put in a request for march.

I`m too slow to actually win any of the classes, but it does look like fun.

Nice! I really wish the economy wasn't so bad so they could do a East coast event.

Like most "events" of this type it seems that the rules weren't thought through very well

55-92? what is the difference between a 92 and 93 stang?

For that matter what about sn95 stangs that are getting LS swaps?

Guys .... I agree that an import with a swapped drivetrain should be allowed, but maybe the big three are sponsoring and will include their subsidiaries later, Trial & error ??? no? I bet 2011 will be about the swapped drivetrain ... period, sheet metal prolly wont matter.

If I'm not mistaken, 93 is the year the mod motor debuted, obviously not in the Mustang. I'd imagine the intent was to keep out cars that came from the factory with these drivetrains. Rather than having to deal with that on a case by case basis, they chose the cutoff as a blanket method of regulating this.

As for imports, to be honest I'm not sure that Car Craft's readers are ready for them even if they have domestic power, and it's their event.

I'm seriously considering this, even though our car is not set up for the drags really. Being in the relative backyard, and the car having been in Car Craft make this very tempting. Not to mention it's fun to watch LS motors getting run hard.

My 92 bird is out too. Wonder why they set the cutoff at 91? Foxs and 3rd gens are common swaps and they end in 93 and 92 respectively

I guess mine is out too... It's not a drag car either, but it still might have been fun, though I doubt I would make it.

Sounds neat. Too bad the import based hybrids get no love from anyone. I love going to car shows and seeing a Fox Body with peeling paint and a stock engine out score my fresh paint and massively detailed engine bay; looks like they're keeping that up in the competition scene.

THAT is probably quite true.

Yep - that's ultimately the bottom line.

Wish that I could take part in it this year, but that's probably not very realistic...

Actually I fully understand why theyve chosen the cars they have...

They are looking to use the cars that show up for features in the magazine and they are orienting the rules towards their magazine's readers tastes.
