Default Holden One Tonner / C5 ZO6 drivetrain

Hi, I'm doing a Holden One Tonner ute they look like these pictured below....

I am using a 2004 ZO6 drivetrain. The torque tube has been lengthened 10 inches. I got a Tonner cab for free it needs some panel work like new sills and a recessed firewall for the LS6 motor.

The chassis rails on the One Tonner are the same width at the front as the Corvettes. The rear rails have to be narrowed 17 inches. The original rails have been cut way they need to be modified and reboxed for the Corvette cradle.

I did get the original Corvette rails sections for the suspension, I will make jigs to copy these to the Tonners chassis.

Some more parts for the conversion.

OBX headers.

Modified torque tube against standard one. The new drive shaft is made from carbon fiber

LS6 with 33,000 miles on it.

Rear rails cut from the chassis, new rear crossmember will be fitted as well as the narrowed rails.

The ute will weigh around 1300kg or 2860lbs

Nice setup. Like those, wish they would've shipped the new Ute here instead of canceling it at the last minute. I take it you're sourcing a RHD Vette rack or already have the steering sorted out?

Holysh*t....

I saw three HSV Maloo's on the Hot Rod Power Tour over here in the US..

I have to say this project takes those to a whole another level!

Did you order that chassis from here in the states, who did the torque tube lengthening...

Cheers guys, the rolling chassis came from Cleveland Pick-a-Part in Ohio, dealt with Gus, great guys did everything right in the way of packing the parts and shipping to the other side of the world. The steering is a billet designed RHD modified Corvette rack, very expensive but worth the money. The suspension will be coil overs instead of the leaf.
The HSV are OK but 1100lbs more than the One Tonner. My everyday car is a new Caprice, I think they where ordered as Police cars in the USA.

The billet RHD Corvette rack.

The Torque tube was done in the States by Mike at SRIII Motorsports, great service and shipping.
Brakes will be C6 ZO6 or the latest ZR1 brembo's if I can buy them, oh yeah there is a Kenne Bell supercharger going on top of the LS6

Rims will be Rushforth 3 piece 20 x13 and 19 x 8
Tyres 345/25/20 and 245/35/19

Pic's of a standard Ute Chassis 114 inch wheelbase

Rear Tyres

Wow - you know your sh*t!

SIII does awesome chassis work for the C2/C3 Corvettes.

I have ordered WAYYYY too many parts from Cleveland Pick A Part! LOL.

My daily driver is a G8 GT which is your Commodore over there.

I have some parts coming from your side of the world to the states - international shipping is a b*tch! LOL!

How are you going to deal with the motor placement in relation to the CL of the front wheels? I have a 1972 Cutlass "A" Body and C5 cradle & suspension that I wanted "graft" into it. The problem is that with the motor mounted in the "stock" location on the cradle and the front wheels in the center of the wheel wells the fire wall needs to be moved 6 to 7 inches. Did yours clear or did you figure a way around it without lifting the motor over the rack? AWESOME project by the way!!

EDIT: Just noticed that you are going to recess the firewall.....

Yes I will cut away the firewall and recess the motor, mainly for balance.

Heres a tip if you take the C5/C6 spindle and cut the steering arms off and make a new plate, mounted with the 3 drilled bosses on the spindle You can use another rack thats front or rear mounted, you have to design it to work correctly though. You can use a mustang rack and mount it at the front of the cradle so the engine will clear. The new custom arms would have to be 4 inches or so longer and the tie rod end lower to match the height the rack has been dropped. Look at picks of the Art Morrison C6 front clips you'll see what I mean they use billet steering rack arms.

Hope this helps you.

Cheers Tim

Cheers I think I've looked at your C6 at the Lateral-G's forum?

Could I ask a favour I'd like to know the ground clearance of the front and rear cradles, measured from the center of the cradle, even if you have lowered you C6 please.

I have set my goal to make this the fastest road legal Holden Ute in the World. My goal for this brick is 200MPH.........

I still won't have the fastest car in my street though, check what the guy next door builds in his garage.............

Yeah - Ive got a thread there and on pro-touring.

I'll have to get back to you on the measurements.

Its stock height riding on 275x30x18 and 295x30x19 BF Goodrich KDW2s on 18x9.5" up front and 19x11" out back.
