No of course I haven't done a 510 before, only three other LS1 conversions.
As for the steering box just yank that crap out and put a e21 BMW rack or a Mustang II R&P that's what I did on the E12 conversion.

I am a glad to see that I am not the only one who wants to put an LS1 into their 510. I have a 1972 2 door that has a 350 beater motor in it now. I have been driving it with that motor for the last 4 summers and it has been a blast to drive. I look forward to the weight savings in the front of the car but it is not too bad with the engine set back. I am currently running a 700R4 with a R200 diff with 3:54 rear gears. The best thing to do with the steering box is to unbolt it and toss it, I am using a rack from a Firefly and it works great. The manual tranny that they originally came with was a tiny 4 speed that was light compared to the automatic that my car came with. I have pics of my car if anyone is interested
yea man ..im interested in any pics you may have ....mines not running right now it has a swapped 2.0 l carb motor in it with i think a t-5 ......needs the suspension gone through and some wiring ....what motor mounts did you use ? crossmember ?
I want a late 70's 4 door with the LS1 and a 6 speed that will put everyone to sleep and carry me, my wife, and 3 year old .

send me a pm with your email and I will send you some pics. I am using the stock chevy motor mounts and the stock Datsun crossmember after I removed the factory mounts that welded to it.
Brutal, anyone else now of one being done? My father has a good friend with one with a 305 and some auto tranny 700R4 perhaps, iam not to sure. The way i see it is, if he can stick a iron block and headed 305 in there, why wont a LSx work?
Or is there something iam missing? Iam new at LSx conversions.
any 510 is going to require* fire wall modification for a v8 swap. i have a v6 in mine and its tiiiiiight. the engine bay is small. some one needs to put a FI lsX engine in a 510.. people have been doing 350's, but a built ls motor would be nasty. full cage, sub fram conectors, sway bars, huge breaks in all 4 courners are going to be needed
I know this tech in Queens NY that put a 4.3/V6 chevy and T5 in his 510 way back in the early 90's. It had a 280Z rack, rear end and brakes and it was set up for raod racing and he just massaged the firewall a little but there was alot of room in front when he was done so an LS1 shouldn't be a problem and I know its lighter than that iron V6 he had in there. The thing was a beast.
Look here. We are putting a turbo LS1 in a 74 610. You will definatly need to open up the tunnel. if you go N/A you won't need firewall mod. oil pan is the issue. i have it stripped now and have taken measurments. Ready for fab work. G
