finally made some progress with the car tonight. did a good bit more beating on the trans tunnel and got the motor sitting where i want it to be. i'll likely have to pull it back out after i build the mounts to clear things a litte more but i'm happy with the positioning. the bottom of the pan is pretty much flush with the base of the crossmember, the back of the heads is about 1.5" forward of the firewall, and suprisingly enough, the stock hood will fit once i cut one rib out of it .
i'll get some more detailed pics tomorrow of the pan positioning and clearance, just wanted to jump on the bandwagon
Looking good man! You are giving me hope that maybe the stock hood will fit at first since I was thinking that it might not. Guess I'll have to test fit it later to find out for myself.

oh yeaaaaaaaaah that LS1 sits nice in there!
nice setup, what are the overall project plans for the car?

Not sure when or what the next project will be... LS1 RX8? LS1 240sx? LS1 3series? LS1 Miata? LS1 S2000?
I was just thinking, is the LS6 intake actually a little higher than the LS1? Just wondering.
correct, althought i cant remember exact.
all youpeople with hood clearance are makingme jelous. worst part is the blower is 3'' taller than the stock intake, and its 4.5'' higher than the hood

I'd take a blower sticking out of the hood and having to mod it over not having a blower with a stock type hood that can close without modification!

i was prepared for it to not clear and to have to rework the hood a little, but i'm amazed that if i cut this rib out of the hood it'll work great. also test fitted the old strut tower brace and i have plenty of clearance on that too . my only real concern now is swaybar clearance on the pan... i may have to work some magic on that.

agreed!

nice work. its interesting to see all the different methods of doing the mounts. each one works, just different approaches. your tranny mount is pretty much the way i imagined would work.
nice pics of the progress! awesome work man! the basic mount design is very similar to what hinson makes for the FC rx7 chassis, yours look nice too. I'm surprised youre gonna run solid motor mounts, yikes! even poly mounts in the stock setup are damn stiff but at least offer some flex for the motor.
you are now using the 240sx throttle cable? looks fine by the way.
shifter location is perfect! NICE!
the trans mount is a good idea, just slice-n-dice and rewelded with some metal to move the center section rearward?
that engine bay pic is soooooooooooooo wicked

i don't want it to flex, this is a dedicated drift car that is occasionally driven on the street so it won't bother me. if it were to flex at all the pan would likely hit the x-member which i really don't want happening. when i pull the motor back out i'm going to clearance it a little more but solid is still better in my case.
thanks for the kind words, it's coming together nicely i think.
the mounts im useing just have a very thin urethane sleeve type bushing similar to these.http://carshop.carshopinc.com/produc...2560e1b30648cc
and i was originaly looking at these as an easy base to make mounts off of. i bet these will work nice, someone should try them. you just need to weld the arm part to a plate welded to the sub-frame and your good to go.

i picked up a set of these mounts also, hope to give the motor a little bit of flex. great job on the tranny mount, i was kind of sweating after seeing the custom job ted did on his.
