Thumbs up The G-Body Swap Thread

Guys, as I'm muling around the idea of an LSX swap into my 79 Monte, I'm doing some research and finding maybe a handful of folks that have actually done the swap into a G-Body... There needs to be more! So for guys like me who need motivation/information, post up some pics and setups!

The LSx/G-Body swap is fairly popular, but yes we can always use more . Did you find the El Camino swap thread? Theres a bunch of pics in my fquick account and a video

ive been driving mine since may, have about 6-7000 miles on it already, dont regret it for a second. it even looks good for me half assing a bunch of stuff (headers, crossover, downpipe) and will be pure sex next year when the engine is painted and everything fixed up. also thinking of building a tubular front from the rear of the control arms forward, should be sweet. Other than that plans are for a manual rack and pinion set up, and 12 or 13" disks for the front.

Do the swap Tony, the performance and power will be addicting. I'm about to upgrade to a new 408 stroker in my 79.

G-Body, I did look at your fquick pics... great job!

When I get the ducks in a row, I'm going to start the search for an LSX...

I am underway on mine (LS1/6spd into 81 Monte carlo). I have most of the parts necessary but have been stalled out the past few months due to having to move. I am hoping to get back to it this week. Here is the link to my pictures.

That will be a nice ride when you're finished.

Oh god, you guys have NO idea how excited I am to see that someone has done this before!

I'm planning either a LR4 swap or a LM7, either one will be turbo charged with a goal of 500 or 550hp (crank) respectively. Being that my buddy on the truck side of this is surpassing 150hp per liter on his daily driver and I'll have his help this doesn't seem unreasonable.

My current ride is a 1979 Buick Regal with the 5.0 4bbl and a three speed auto. I'm ok with auto or manual, but would prefer one that doesn't break.

I'm going to make the local GNX cower with fear.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Just a quick update...I'm still in engine jail. My builder is slow, but does good work and is old school cheap.

Gives me time to detail the chassis and admit to myself that the 7.5" 10 bolt and stock driveshaft need to go.

CirclesCenter,
Twin turbo small displacment LS engine with a manual sounds fun.

oh youll have NO problem getting 500whp if you go with a 6.0 and the turbo. im currently at about 620 crank hp. thats 8.5psi, and no intercooler, on pump gas. i would recommend doing what i did and get a 6.0L with a 4L80-e on it. i dont plan on doing anything to the trans until i get to about 750hp. Otherwise if you want a stick, just pick one, they will all take it, but i would spend the money and go LS2 right away.

My buddy has plenty of horses with his truck (screen name: Wilderacing I believe) And with his help I'm sure 500 crank hp will be easy to get out of a turbo'd 4.8. I mean his specific output is like 150hp per liter, so about 105 will be no problem.

Though I am considering a 5.3. I don't want to go with the 6.0 because of the large price jump, and the fact that at that power level I'm going to have to do a LOT more than a trans and a rear end to even have a hope of putting it down. With 500 I have to question if after I do a 4L80e and a rear end (not sure what I should do there) what will I be breaking?

I just dropped a 5.3 in my 85 MCSS, I have started my writeup on my website:

http://mykidz.net/montess

I got to drive it for a couple of days before I tore out my 10 bolt. Won't be too bad though, I was already in the process of putting my 9" Moser together. Should be back together in a couple of days.
