Default Celica tuned and road tested

I got the celica tuned and put on the underdrive pulley and MSD wires and then left the next day for a road trip with 343rwhp on tap. I drove from Texas to southern california then all the way up the coast into oregon and back down. By the time I made it back home I'd put 5700 miles on the car with no problems at all and lots of sideways fun giving people rides. I averaged almost 24mpg for the whole trip and turned in a best of 31.1mpg. It was a joy to drive and easily cruised well into triple digit speeds. I just thought I'd share.

It's out of a 2001 Camaro and had 38,000 miles on the odometer when I got it. I'm running a stock Z06 clutch, Fidanza 12lb flywheel, ASP underdrive pulley, Hooker long tubes with the driver's side heavily modified and then thermal coated, custom radiator, lowered subframe 1.5", Landcruiser clutch master cylinder mated to the stock camaro clutch line. Front swaybar from the back of a '92 Iroc Z, custom trans and engine mounts with poly camaro bushings, custom driveshaft, 3.42 diff with Torsen limited slip installed, AIM dash, volvo radiator fan wired to camaro ecu. I'm sure there's more but that's a good start.
And for some visuals:

Oh yeah, the car too, it's a '85 Celica GTS with 315,000 miles on the chassis, Suspension techniques springs, Tokico Illumina shocks, 16x8 Centerline Venturas with 245/45/16s all the way around. That's about it, it'll be getting better brakes, stiffer suspension, and poly bushings in the very near future, and as soon as I kill the current tires I'll be getting some 275s for the back, probably stepping up to 17x9s.

Thats the shits when a celica has more room for the engine than my swaped LS sonoma. Definitely a sleeper. Can't beat those early celica's for stealth and RWD to make it all the sweeter.

Holy Moses man, that wasn't the type of Celica I was picturing... I'm hoping like hell that you've got a fairly quiet muffler on that thing - it would be the most ungodly brutal sleeper... :

(Also - Props on the work that you put into it...!)

It's actually very quiet, maybe too quiet. It's got 3" collectors off the headers, 3" Y, 3" high flow cat, and then goes down to a 2.5" pipe out the back with a single Magnaflow muffler with a 18" body. It sounds really good and is very quiet, I'll probably be upgrading to 3" all the way back, with dyno tests before and after to see what kind of a change it makes.

Wow, that sounds an awful lot like my current setup! I think that my intermediate pipe is like 2.75, but other than that, it's really close. (Well, except for the DMH e-cutout that I added a couple months ago...)

When I installed my headers, I needed to have an exhaust shop make the little piece that ties the Y-pipe in to the cat, & when I did, I swapped to the new muffler too - & I told 'em that I wanted the quietest free-flowing muffler they could get. (I already have a red car, I didn't want a whole lot of "official attention"!) I've little doubt that it flows pretty well, but MAN, it really IS too quiet sometimes!

Actually it's a big chunk of aluminum machined to the right size and drilled for longer subframe bolts. That picture was taken before I took it back out and painted it black.

That's the point. The paint will be the last thing I do to it. Suspension, brakes, interior, stereo, and door seals will all be finished before the car gets to look nice from the outside.

Thanks for all the props/comments guys, it's nice to share it with people that appreciate how much work has been done.
