Nice to hear from you again Jack. The 63 was really starting to go away from what I wanted, plus I found this 66 (always wanted a post car) cheap. I finally realized the 502 route was going to cost me way to much money, so I decided to do the LS1 thing.

See you finally gave up on that 283, yours is looking good, nice work on those headers.

The GTO pans will clear the stock steering as they are a front sump pan.

LMAO....the 283 was a lot of fun, and it ran really well for what it was. I sold it a guy off steves board for a fraction of what I had in it, but I too really liked the idea of the LSX style setup. Your 63 was sweet, but I have to say I really do like this 66 your building. Good luck, and keep the pics coming!

The 66 is a very neat body style. You have very little room for rear tires. Are you going to minitub or just let the tires spin a little bit?

My stock steering did not clear the GTO pan - I did not determine how much it was off by - but the general comment that it works is not true - every vehicle has different tolerances and my just didn't work out.

Its already minitubbed and has a 275/50-15 underneath it with about 2 more inches of clearance left.

It is a good possibility it was the mounts that you chose to use. Some mounts move the engine back, which will cause the steering linkage to hit the pan. I used Transdapt mounts, and modified them to move the engine 1" forward. I have NO issues with steering.

I'm thinking of putting a LSX eng in my car. You said you had to move the engine forward 1", was this done to clear the steering linkage? Your pics are very helpful. I'm assuming the block hugger headers won't work?

Duane, do you know yet if the fbody mounted alternator will clear your steering? What about the a/c on the other side?

I actually did it for several reasons. 1. I gained more room in the trans tunnel. 2. I needed more room for the coil brackets from the factory brake booster, and the heater blower motor. 3. I did not like where the heater lines were placed off the water pump.

I highly doubt that you will get block hugger headers in there. I made my own, just finished up the passenger side last night. Still have to weld the collectors and the flanges.

The factory F-body alternator mounting location will clear with an aftermarket front clip. Forget about the stock A/C compressor though. I mounted the A/C compressor on the passenger side high with some great brackets I found.

Default New comer!

Just wanted to say Hi to everyone. I'm building a 67 chevy II. I'm installing a ls2 with a 6-speed. I am also using the stock front clip. Baby deuce has inspired me to build my own headers. I started on them what fun. If you have any more pics would like to check them out. Thanks Jamie.
