Default 1991 RS Convertible LS1 Swap with pics!

Just wanted to start a thread showing the progress on my swap.

I have a 91 RS Vert and a 2002 LS1 with a Thunder Racing 224/230 112 LSA .610/.605 lift Cam, Stock 243 heads with Patriot Dual Gold Springs, TSP Ported LS6 oil pump, LS2 timing chain, ARP head bolts, and Comp Hardened push rods.

Will be ordering the "Hawks" 3rd gen swap Long Tubes

Low Mileage 4L60e with a Circle-D 3000 Stall Converter, and a Big Fawkin Trans Cooler.

Spohn motor mounts and trans cross member.

My buddy and I pulled the old crappy 305 tbi and 700r4 out and I have notched the k-member (to run the stock 2002 a/c compressor) and my buddies dad is welding it up, I just primered the engine bay last night. The vert is going to be Torch Red with the 92 Heritage Stripe Package.

I have some pics of whats been going on so far:

Had to tow it home as it wasn't running when I bought it...

When I first got it home

Picture of the crappy 305

Bought an LQ4 only to realize it was a 99 LQ4 and would not bolt up to a 4l60e (or t56)

Pulling the 241's off of the 2002 LS1 we pulled

Empty engine bay, all sanded ready for primer

Primered

More updates coming soon!!

Just bought some paint for the engine bay, this last weekend was crazy, I do live sound and had a show at CBS studios with 3 full stages, and the day before that I had a Philharmonic show at the National Cemetary.

Anyway, I just picked up a 1998 Arctic White Z28, I was just going to sell it, but I think I can swing keeping it and not having to stop the 91's progress. Besides it makes a good daily driver if I can keep my foot out of it. So I will most likely be selling my 89 tercel.

I hope to paint the engine bay this sunday...
will post pics as soon as it gets painted!

Nah there is alot of crap that can be done without spending any money, just need strut mounts, and engine can be in the car, and car sitting on the ground. Also rip interior out, put newer seats in, run the wiring for power windows, and put the new carpet in. All of the accessories could be hooked up, cooling, a/c, put all the engine bay crap back in, by that time I will have headers and a cpu, then it will run. and any down time we have, I could be sanding the doors, fenders, and quarters, so it will be ready for paint also. Not to mention we gotta figure out wiring, and by the time it is running I could probably have the money for a good tune and exhaust.

But yeah we gotta figure out those o2 low voltage codes on the Z, then I can sell that toyota for maybe enough to buy those headers

You got that right. I did that to my '91. Cool thing is, if it's completely stripped (glass and all), two guys can pick it up and move it around (maybe 3).

It came out just fine, I'm not doing the whole exterior there just the engine bay... I am renting a booth for the body...

Cool Updates

So the engine is "in", it's bolted in... just need to buy some strut mounts, the trans mount, then I can have the car sitting on the ground... To have it "running", I need headers, a ecm, and wiring... will update again soon

These LS2 covers are for sale... I am in the market to trade these for some LS1 covers
