Unhappy Sad Day at the strip

I drove my brother's 05 vette to the strip today and wasnt planning on running it but you all know what peer pressure does to you. So I took it up there and as soon as I brake torqued it to clean off the tires, the axle broke. Is this a common problem with these vettes? The tires didnt even spin and it broke. Also 2 other of my friends broke their rearend on their f-bodys and another person broke thier axle on their neon.

They have some insane track prep! Usually C6's will break the dif, but it is also common the bust an axle. If you ever go back, just ease off the line in the 05.

If it's just an axle, it shouldn't be that bad. Less than $800 I'm guessing but I'm not sure, maybe someone else can chip in here. You sould search Corvette Forums for info as well.

Probably about $7-800 depends on labor rate.Usually shears the long side shaft off right even with the end of the inside CV stub. Dont let them sell you a new axle, weld a bolt to the broken stub and pop it out.Diff will have to come out for a new output shaft, might as well upgrade it to a hardened one while your in there. Awesome track prep, sounds like you werent the only one doa.

The weak link seems to be the driver's side output shaft.

It can be bought for about $90 from some online vendors.

It takes about 45 minutes to change out by an experienced couple of guys.

perhaps the dealer will cover it under warrenty, but probably not.

If it is not the output shaft - disregard this post.

G/L with the repair.
