When the price of gas was about 2 bucks a few years ago, race gas (100oc) by me was about 4.75, I think. Something like that. Anyway when gas went to 4 bucks it shot up to 7.75. Gas went back down below 2 bucks, the race gas stayed up at 7 3/4. Is that just here in NJ or everywhere? Isn’t that some kind of price gouging? That's like some kind of tax that discriminates agenized racers.
I wish we could all band together and file some kind of clash action suit.
It's not right.
I'm running 11:1 - and when I through some 100 octane in there its like night and day as far as pinging, compaired to super. I try to alternate every 1/2 tank, I swith from 93 to 100 and back. If I go all 100oc, my car is very happy, but dropping 100 bucks a tank makes me very unhappy. I run the stuff in my kx500 also.

I can get it by the drum but thats not the point.
The point is that thay are taking advantage of racers. The price is way out of controll. And it never drops, not 1 cent. Just goes up. What are we going to do when gas goes up to 4 bucks again this summer and race gas goes to 12 bucks. Then stays there.
I see alot of people at the track going to pump gas motors.

Race gas just dropped by me, but doesn't matter since I still use 93 octane.

Race fuel is not made in the qty's that standard grade gas is so since so much smaller qt's are made I doubt we will see it go down much more. Sucks, but is reality.
Supply and Demand, also depending who is making the fuel out there. Torco was expected to be out of biz but I hear they are under new owners. I mean having competitor out of the market is not good for buyers. Since the places we can go to get less.

why not just retune the car for 93? 11:1 is not a lot of compression. I would imagine with my ported LS6 heads, milled, I am at 11.2:1 or 11.5:1, I run 93 and the car makes loads of power for what it is. If you were 13:1 or 14:1 I could understand the need for 110, but with neer stock compression, why even bother?
I remember a few years back, I had 5.3ltr heads, it was close to 12:1 CR, for shits and giggles CARTEK put 104 in the car, after hours on the dyno, the car only made ~5hp more. It was just an experiment cause we were interested to see, clearly race fuel was not needed. Maybe your car does not need it either? Maybe tune it for 93 and see what power it makes?
Just my $0.02

Im with you. I just cant seem to get it to run good on 93. I think I just dont tune that grate. On a long hill you wouldn't believe the amount of pinging I get. Sounds like she's going to rattle apart. I F with the timing and it helps a bit, but I can never get it dialed in on the pump gas.
It might be the old style iron heads on the L-72. As soon as I get a few bucks I'll be ready to drop the zl1 in. That has 10.5:1.

Oh dude, Im sorry, I had thought that you had an LSx motor in there, with 11:1
On an old school motor, 11:1 might be a lot because of the far less efficient head. Maybe you really do need 100 octane.
