Default New 8.50 cage getting done.

After getting booted for faster than 9.90 with a 6pt I figured its time for a 8.50 cage, I dd my own on the last car and I can admit I'm no fabricator/ welder when it comes to roll cages. Dropped my car off at NRC in South Carolina (closest guys around that I have seen do some nice 4th gens) last Saturday and its almost done already, these guys do some nice work and fast. I like looking at roll bar/cage construction pics and so do others so I thought I'd share some pics.

Oh yea, it's nice to finally hear a chassis or engine shop that actually get's right to it.
I'm getting tired of all these shops lying through their teeth, taking your deposit & letting the car sit around forever.
Good luck.

I had a 25.5 in my old car, I swore i would never do more than a 6 point on this car but you know how that goes.

Funy pic of Jay down there, he moves so fast the camera cant catch him lol. It would have taken me a week just to weld the floor plates in

Looks really nice. How long did they have the car for?

I definately feel you on doing your own cage. What made me do mine was getting quoted 4K just to tig everything in LOL I had already fitted and tacked in the Wolfe 8 pt.

Yea, I dropped it off in the aftrnoon six days ago. I'm with you on the waiting thing, I did a moly Wolfe cage in my old car and honestly after you figure the argon, filler, my time and weld quality this was very reasonable. Plus I'll be able to pick it up NHRA certed and ready to go. I usually like to do everything myself but sometimes it's best to just take it somewhere.

Agreed, chassis welding is not the place to risk any weak spots. On my car I only weld brackets
or mounts on NON-supporting items. I spent a bunch of money on a new TIG and
learned it's not even close to as easy as it looks. We spend way too much on these cars
& our butts to fool ourselves that we can do anything. Like my 9" cracked a weld Sunday.
I will fix that my self. When I had to add a bar last year, I had the chassis shop do it.

Now go win some rounds to pay for it!!

NRC are some of the best guys in the game for sure. whwen I had my car for sale I had a roller waiting to pick up and bring down there but the car never sold, and work got a little shaky making doing anything a little more risky then I wanted.

I can't wait to get to the point where I'm ready to bring the car down there, wether it be the one I have now (cut it all out and redo it right to a 25.x) or another car.

Either way.... these guys are getting it. 14+ hours away or not.

Yea well, I should have kept a lot of things lol. But when you do a second one you do a few different that you wished you would have done to start out with - plus this one is all brand new so its good for a couple yers of beating

I have a nice TIG and know how to weld but I cant do welds like that inside the car, takes a lot of practice, room and the right equipment. You are ight, its definately not as easy as it looks..

Yea, after seeing how fast they turned around Mike's 25.2 cage and how good it looked I was impressed for sure. Good people and a nice shop, its around a 350 mile trip one way for me but well worth it.

Last pic of them putting the car on the ground today, paint the cage, put the windshield back in and its done.

Real good looking working.

Hey Kevin... I hated to see you get rid of the last car, but I knew this was coming eventually despite the best of "intentions" LOL!

Hope to see you in this neck of the woods again at some point.

That's just one thing I don't like about how the guy did the cage in my car. The "halo" to me is just a low class way of going about it, and also the lazy man's way IMO.

NRC is one of the few people I would drop a car off to, and leave them to do things the way they want it done. The guy that did my car, even with babysitting what he was doing he still hacked a couple things that even to this day I don't like.

It's just nice to know that there are shops like NRC out there that do things right, and get stuff done!

Hell, when Mike's car went in to have the 10 pt taken out and the 25.2 built, mine went in for a 6 pt to 10 pt conversion, and relocate the battery. Mike had his car back a week before I did, and I had to paint my own car.

So yeah.... I'd say they get stuff done

I have a Halo in my car, It's very nicely done but I prefer the way they did kp's car.
Depends on the builder I guess and what he thinks works best. The guy who did mine also builds 6 sec pro mods and I'm pretty sure he had done a halo in his 6 sec vette if I remember correctly, albeit alot more extensive metal work than in mine.
