About to get my car out of the body shop for some paint work and was wondering what everyone uses to protect the quarters panels from rubber from burnouts. I always cleaned mine when I was finished at the track but it is a pain in the ass and pretty time consuming plus being hard on the finish. Any ideas?

3M has a clear film you can buy, its used on many cars factory, lower quarter panels and bottom of fenders etc. but you can buy it in on a roll and it comes in different thicknesses so just trim it and stick it on, its even hard to see and will protect your paint job. so you can use alcohol or paint reducer to get the rubber off, you can also try putting carnubawax on it real thick leave it on at the drag strip and most of the rubber will wipe off...
I just clean it, found a few things that will liquify the rubber... Mr. Moto Quick Detailer is by far the best Ive used. I got it form the local VP Fuels warehouse.

I use Pam on mine. No rubber sticks at all. Only thing is a little bit of brake dust sticks to the Pam but it's not actually on the paint. Afterwords I just power wash it off, throw some quick detail on and it's good as new.
edit: put the Pam on before you go to the track.
Why did you edit and state put it on before you go to the track? just curious.....
I would guess so you can have a clean surface to put it on.... Probably don't want however many miles of street use before you start spraying anything on.

I bought a silicone spray from Ace. Works good. Pam works as well as pledge furniture polish. The clear plastic from 3m is a pain. There is a thread where a guy used the mud flaps (for lack of a better word) from a new Z06. looks pretty good

I just spray down my bumper/quarter panel area with an off brand cooking spray like Spam. It works great!

You can leave it on as long as you want and the rubber/VHT just wipes off when you wash the car. I have used pam before also but pam stays oily where this stuff dries on and does not rub off.

We use some of the 2 inch blue painters tape on the rear bumper area and then just pull it off when done playing around. No mess and easy on and off. It's the rest of the car that gets dirty at the track.

Why not spend $.99 on a can of cooking spray or some burnout guard? I think the tape just looks real tacky.

Just did the painters tape thing for the first time last month. Couple of minutes to put it on and the same to take it off. I don't find it tacky at all, it is what it is, so what's the problem? It's a drag strip thing, not a car show.

I guess, but I like my car to be nice and waxed and detailed while it's at the track. It's your guys cars, do what you please I was just adding my $.02.

^^^If you run your car at the track then it is not going to stay clean. I don't care what track you are at the car is going to get dirt and dust all over it. Unless you are one of those guys that parks way out in the grass and doesn't run their car. Just my .02

I'm seeing more and more people who race their DDs doing this at the track. At least 5 cars had blue tap on them last Saturday.
