3rd gen rear in f-body = poormans narrowed rearend

since you can put a 4th gen in a 3rd gen. i would assum you can do a 3rd into a 4th gen. Since a 3rd gen is 1.5in. shorter on each side, it would basically be like shorting the rearend correct? So then can you run a 15x10 on a 11'' tire and it wouldnt stick out? Asking because my buddy has a line on a 9'' with 33 spline axles 4.10's blah blah for $1500!!

if it is 1.5" a side shorter then you will need either a 5.5" or 6.0"back spacing.the main thing about going in too far is rubbing on the inner wheelwell which may have to be massaged.keep us posted on the progress.

you can always order a rear thats narrowed. locally guys are paying 275 complete to narrow rears. but otherwise it will work. 1.5" isnt much IMO

can you narrow a rear end and run a deeper dish wheel without having to mini tub?? if it only cost 275 to narrow a rear end i may go this route. does that price include narrowing the axles??

a local chasis shop does it for that much. yes you can. do a search b/c its been talked about many many times.

I just had my car mini tubbed (will post pics), and was speaking to the chassis builder (NRC Motorsports) and he told me it's better to go with a 15x10 with 5" BS instead of 7.5" (I believe that's what's required with a stock length rear in a 4th gen) because it puts the load right in the middle/center of the wheel?? I don't like the deep dish look cause it will take away the stock look from the car but if it works better than I'll use it,besides the American Racing Trak Star wheel I wanna use can't be had with a 7" or 6" BS (atleast they don't list it). I know you can fit a 11.5" without major surgery (minitub) because I had 17x11.5" ( 315/35/17) Fikse's in the rear, I rolled the lip and massaged the inner well and they never touched! Not sure about a taller 28-29" tire, but I've seen 325/50/15 without minitubbing and not sticking out past the wells. Regardless of rear length you cannot change what size wheel/tire combo will fit without minitubbing or some sort of mod to the wheel well. I think I'm gonna need a rearend 2.5" shorter than a stock 4th gen, but I'll put the wheel/tire combo on the measure up to make sure it's right! Just my .02!

its both. 1.5 on each side. Making the entire rear a total of 3'' narrower.

Why would you want a narrowed 10 bolt rear? Just order a Moser or Strange rear and they will narrow it for you.

what would the back spacing be on the 3rd gen rear for a 11" wheel? ive got a spare 84 camaro sitting around and ive got 15 x 11 draglites just sitting around...i might have to try this out for a weekend or two at the track...somebody let me know...

Im not talking about a 10 bolt. Question came about because i found a 9'' for a 3rd gen for a crazy cheap price. So if i could get a "narrowed 9''" for next to nothing then why not. Im with you, im not building a 10 bolt, but getting a narrowed 12/9''

i run a strange 12 bolt that is out of a 3rd gen... works great , everything bolts up and you can usualy get good deals on them.
