Question Comparison of Trick Flow 220 As-Cast and 215 heads please

ok so im wondering how much more power youd get out of the 215's compared to the 220's. is it worth the extra money basically? ive noticed since the as cast 220's have come out alot of people have been using them.

thanks

I cant remember his screen name but there is a guy running mid 10s with the 220cc and a g5x4 at full weight so they obviously can be used to make big power. You're the only one that can decide if they are worth it to you, it is a good bit more money. The 215s would probably make a little more power but depending on your goals you'll get all the other benefits from the tfs heads from the 220cc as the 215cc for quite a bit cheaper. What is it your shooting for in the heads?

so TEA does do cnc on the 220's. I'd bet they would be better than the 215's especially on a stroker.

But i would still like to see a A B comparison on a 346 with a cam.

i just want to see what the power gain difference is between the two and see if it justifies to go with the more expensive 215 or not i know they are both good quality heads but just curious. come on race shops bolt them up to an engine dyno for us!

This is the setup we run on a stock bottom end 6.0 LQ4. Has been a 10.95 in bad air so far @ 3700 Lbs raceweight. Only shifting at 6600. Hope to run 10.70s in better air and shifting around 7K. The car has never been on a Dyno though. It's a stalled A4 with a 12bolt. Doubt it would be that impressive.

Not sure why so many people over look the " as cast" heads.

It seems like the as-cast heads fit what your trying to do now. If your planning on a bigger motor later maybe order the 4 inch bore ones to start so as to have room to grow later on. If you wanted more when you did the stroker I'm sure Tea could improve on them for you if you wanted. I have no back to back testing unfortunately as I do not make the money to do this (don't I wish though). Personally I'd run the 215s if money isn't an issue but the difference between the two will cover the rocker arms needed and then some.

People will speculate all different kinds of things about this argument. Fact is, nobody has done the back to back comparison yet (and posted it at least) to show the solid data in how much the difference really is.

I would be very interesting for somebody who already runs the 220 head to pony up and put a set of 215's on.

I really dont think a "regular" customer would do this because of the money involved. It would be more cost effiecient and would probably make more power to just send the as cast to TEA to get them ported.

I think its going to up to a big shop like TSP or Vengeance, or any of the others. They must have a set of used 215's sitting around or they could probably get there hands on some easier than we could without paying the 2300 to get them. I think if a customer comes in to get some as cast installed they should ask them if they are willing to be a mule for the comparison and throw on a set of 215 that are milled to similar compression ratio.

I would say TFS should do it but they would be cravy to if the as cast make about the same power for about 600 to 700 less.

This is a great question...I am sure there are many that are interested in this as well. Just don't know if anyone is ever going to answer this question though.

From what I have been told the CNC machined version has about 10hp over the As Cast 220 version of the head.
I went with the 220 As Cast version and should have here in the next 2 weeks and will Dyno it up when finished.
Did not think it was worth the extra $800 for 10 more HP for my Daily Driver application.

FWIW we havent performed any back to back comparisons, but we have built several combos with both cylinder heads and the As Cast are always about 8 to 10rwhp down from the CNC heads... For the price the As Cast head is hard to beat for a street car......
